The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team trailed by just three at half before ultimately losing 20-6 vs. Roanoke on Wednesday evening at Jopson Field. Hunter Bagby finished with 24 saves and four ground balls in the cage for Bridgewater, while Brandon Schick caused three turnovers. Sean MacLeish had two goals and an assist, and Eric Husselbaugh also scored twice. The Eagles trailed just 8-5 at the break after a Justin Calabrese goal with 11 seconds left and 15 first half saves from Bagby. Trailing 1-0 midway through the first, Bagby made a crazy double save to deny Daniel Medvetz down low and get back up high to rob Matthew Lintner from point-blank range on the rebound. With the shot clock running down, MacLeish found Husselbaugh with a nice crossfield pass and the sophomore got to the crease for the goal, making it 2-1 Maroons. MacLeish would pick up the ground ball and score after a second quarter failed Maroons clear to keep the Eagles with one at 3-2. Connor McLean hit the post soon after. Two-time All-American Jason Sarro would score three unassisted goals in the second quarter however to give the Maroons a bit of separation. The third came from way outside as the shot clock hit zeroes. Bagby made two more saves on a Roanoke man-advantage and Jacob Clemmer found MacLeish in transition to make it 5-3 Maroons in the second quarter. Husselbaugh nearly cut the deficit back to two early in the third quarter but had his first chance stopped by Ian Davies (13 saves) before ripping the rebound off the pipe. Roanoke finally pulled away with a six-goal run in the third quarter. Peter Lindley scored man-down, followed by Roanoke killing off a one-minute penalty and then striking in transition for a 12-5 lead. Sarro (six goals, eight points) added another unassisted tally, and Medvetz finished off a crease roll just 24 seconds later to make it 14-5. Bridgewater (7-3, 0-3 ODAC) will travel to Randolph-Macon on Saturday for a crucial conference road matchup.
