The Lehigh women's lacrosse team scored three straight goals to pull within 9-6 with 20:15 still remaining, but No. 13 Navy answered with an 8-0 run and nine of the final 10 goals to down the Mountain Hawks (6-5, 1-2 Patriot Leagueg), 18-7 on Wednesday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Lehigh won 10 of the first 16 draws of the day, but Navy rebounded to win 10 of the final 11 to help the Midshipmen control possession and create separation. Sophomore Sondra Dickey led Lehigh's offense with four goals while junior Courtney Henig scored twice. Jenna Collins led Navy in goals (7), points (8) and draw controls. "We had a tough stretch primarily because of Jenna Collins," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "She's one of the best players in the league. She's super tough to stop. She's dominant on the draw and she had a big night going to the cage. She probably single-handedly swung the direction of the game. She's a rare player to have; I credit her performance and Navy all-around." In the first half, a pair of Mountain Hawks broke Lehigh's previous single-season record for draw controls. Senior Kayleen Kelly won the game's first draw to give her 48 on the season, breaking the old record of 47 held by Carli Sukonik in 2012. With just over three minutes left in the first half, Dickey picked up her third draw of the game, also giving her 48 draw controls on the season. Lehigh jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on the game's first possession as Dickey scored exactly 1:30 into the contest with the shot clock winding down. Navy followed with a 6-0 run to take a 6-1 advantage, but Dickey and Henig scored two goals in the span of 16 seconds to quickly pull Lehigh within 6-3 late in the half. The Mids opened a 9-3 advantage early in the second half before Lehigh answered with three consecutive goals, by Henig, Dickey and junior Kellie Gough, to pull the Mountain Hawks back within 9-6 with more than 20 minutes still remaining. Navy controlled the ensuing minutes due in large part to its dominant edge on the draw and converting 17 second-half shots into 10 goals. The Midshipmen quickly built up their lead, on their way to the 18-7 final. Final shots were 33-22 in favor of Navy while the Mids held a 13-10 edge in groundballs and 16-11 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore Samantha Sagi made six saves for Lehigh across Navy's Ingrid Boyum, who made four. The Mountain Hawks will now travel to Army West Point on Saturday to face the Black Knights.
