The No. 24/RV Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (5-4) fell, 17-5, to the No. 2/3 University of Maryland Terrapins (9-1) in a nonconference battle on Wednesday evening at the Maryland Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Hoyas showed a strong effort early, but could not match the Terrapin offense to eventually drop the decision. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) led the way with a pair of goals and an assist for three points for the Blue & Gray. Junior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), sophomore attacker Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior attacker Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) each managed a goal. The Hoyas were outshot, 37-16, and pulled in seven draw controls to Maryland’s 17. Georgetown committed 14 turnovers while forcing nine from the Terps. Junior goalkeeper Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) had five saves, while sophomore Micheline DiNardo (Rye, N.Y./Rye) managed four saves in the cage. The Hoyas showed some solid defensive sets early, but it was Maryland that scored first to take the lead. Lynch tied the game at one at 23:49 after the ball was flipped to her and she blasted one from the right side. The Terps answered right back, but the GU defense responded with some big stops and then Lynch hit her second of the contest to tie the game at two apiece. The Georgetown defense continued to make plays, but the Terps were still able to regain the advantage with a goal at 15:52 and then added five more making it a 6-0 run and putting UMD ahead, 8-2. Gebhardt ended the run with 2:19 remaining as she fired a laser from the right side. Ryan managed her first of the game on the next play as Lynch found her cutting through the middle and she hit the top right corner to make it 8-4. However, in the final seconds of the first half, Maryland added one more to make it 9-4 at the break. The Terps opened the scoring early in the second half which sparked a 4-0 run. The Hoyas changed keepers as DiNardo came in and made some huge saves. Despite her efforts, however, the Hoyas couldn’t stop the Maryland firepower as the Terps continued the run to move ahead by 10 goals. Georgetown ended the 6-0 run with a free position goal from Ehle with 12 minutes remaining marking the Hoyas’ first goal of the second half. The Terps answered right back as the Blue & Gray could not get any momentum going in the half. Maryland continued to score as GU could not respond resulting in the 17-5 decision. The Hoyas will return to BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday as the squad travels to the University of Cincinnati to battle the Bearcats at noon.
