HIRAM, Ohio - March 5, 2022 – Hiram College men's lacrosse picked up its first home win of the year, defeating the La Roche University RedHawks, 14-7, on Saturday at Charles A. Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium. The Terriers got off to a hot start, outshooting the RedHawks 17-1 in the opening period. La Roche's Aidan Wagner saved the first two Terrier shots, after a failed clear attempt and RedHawk turnover, Trevor Nordstrom scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Ambrose Colliluori to give Hiram a 1-0 lead just under four minutes into the first quarter. Hiram quickly made it 2-0 after Markus Johnson won the face-off, as, after a pair of shots-on-goal, Noah Pilgram found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 lead with 10:05 left in the first. The Terriers would add another on Colliluori's first goal of the game with 4:15 left in the opening frame before Ethan Mayer added to the Terriers' tally with just over two minutes to play in the first. Following a La Roche penalty, Mayer and the Terriers took advantage, with Mayer scoring his first goal of the day with 2:14 left in the period to make it a 4-0 lead. La Roche quickly got on the scoreboard to start the second, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity to cut Hiram's lead in half, first on Devin Wolford's man-up goal to make it 4-1, before Isaiah Hubbard made it 4-2 less than a minute later on an assist from Wolford. Hiram though, quickly won the face-off and responded, with Brett Johnson making it 5-2 off an assist from Gage St. Leone with 13:03 left in the first half. And after another RedHawks penalty gave Hiram an advantage, the Terriers took advantage, with St. Leone notching his first goal of the year off an assist from Pilgram to make it 6-2. A little over midway through the second period, Hubbard again found the back of the net, cutting Hiram's lead to 6-3. But Mayer quickly answered for the Terriers, making it a 7-3 lead off William Luketich's assist. And less than a minute later, Colliluori gave the Terriers their second, four-goal period of the day, scoring his second goal off an assist from Trevor Flugum to make it 8-3 heading into the halftime break. Mayer and Colliluori then both opened up the second half with goals, completing their second and third hat tricks of the year, respectively, to make it a 10-3 Hiram lead with 12:55 left in the third. The RedHawks would tally to goals to cut Hiram's lead in the third period, by Pilgram sandwiched a goal of his own in-between, giving the Terriers an 11-5 lead after three-quarters of play. Flugum then got on the scoreboard to start the fourth, scoring off St. Leone's assist, to make it 12-5 in favor of the Terriers. And after Hubbard added another to his tally for the RedHawks, Flugum did the same, making it a 13-6 Hiram lead with 8:19 to play. Both teams would add another goal to their tally, Hiram's coming on Collilori's fourth goal of the day with 32 seconds left, before the Terriers finished off the 14-7 victory. Hiram moves to 2-1 with the win, while the RedHawks drop to 0-4 with the loss. Colliluori led the Terriers with four goals on nine shots, adding two assists, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Mayer added three goals on nine shots, while Flugum and Pilgram each tallied a pair of goals as well. Pilgram and St. Leone tied Colliluori with a team-high two assists, while Markus Johnson led the Terriers with a game-high 11 ground balls, winning 16 of his 22 face-offs. Defensively, nine Terriers caused turnovers, led by Isaac Keeno's two, while Bricen Jones picked up his second win of the year, recording five saves. Hiram next travels to Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday, March 8 for a non-conference matchup against Mount St. Joseph at 4 p.m.
