The Edgewood College Men's Lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker on Monday evening to Mount St. Joseph University. The Eagles fell to the Lions in sudden death double overtime 10-9. Six different Eagles scored in the Eagles historic opener. HOW IT HAPPENED - Alex Petersen scored the first goal in program history with 8:46 on the clock in the first period. The Eagles would go on to score twice more, from Blake Stockwell and Avery Bugaj to go up 3-2 over the Lions. - Edgewood College (0-1) went into the third period trailing by three (6-3), but immediately responded back, knotting things up at 6 a piece in the third period. The Eagles continued their scoring streak in the final 15-minute fourth period, scoring three more and taking a 9-6 lead. - Despite strong defense from the Eagles in the final five minutes of action, Mount St. Joseph (1-2) managed to score tie the game at nine with just 13 seconds left in the fourth period. - The Eagles went into overtime looking for the win, but with 35 seconds left in the second overtime period the Lions found the back of the net to earn the victory. - Edgewood College saw Stockwell lead the Eagles attack, scoring three goals in the season opener. Alex Maurer wasn't far behind, adding two goals of his own. Bugaj, Ryder Patano, Dylan Bondeson, and Petersen each scored a goal for the Eagles. - Nick Fiske played a big part for the Eagles in goal, recording 16 saves. THE OPPOSITION - Bryce Smith led the Lions attack with four goals. Cole Mericle added three goals and two assists for Mount St. Joseph, including the winning goal in double overtime. TJ Ahrens recorded 16 saves in goal. UP NEXT - The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. EST. Edgewood College will take on Earlham College in Richmond, Ind.
