MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host Morrisville State College men's lacrosse used six third quarter goals, including three straight late in the frame by freshman Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.), to down Kings College by a 12-9 final in non-conference action on Drake Field in Morrisville Thursday afternoon. The win is the first for the Mustangs on the season, who improve to 1-3. Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) registered the win in net for Morrisville State, collecting 15 saves, as Kings held the 38-32 advantage in shots on the day. Two additional players posted hat tricks for the hosts alongside Dovi, including sophomore Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) who collected three, while adding two assists. Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) also netted three, while teammate Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) notched two and assisted another. Richard Yelk (Reading, Pa.) rounded out the Mustang goal scoring with his first of the season. Morrisville State opened up scoring at the 12:16 mark in the first quarter as Biggs hit Peters for the Mustang tally and early 1-0 lead. Kings was able to answer in the closing minute of the quarter with their first of the afternoon, but an illegal body check by the Monarchs gave Morrisville State the man advantage, and Geswaldo buried one off the dish from Peters with 12 seconds to go sending the game into the second with a 2-1 Mustang lead. After a Kings goal at the 8:10 mark, Morrisville State scored four straight before the Monarchs added a final tally to make it a 6-3 game in favor of the Mustangs at the break. Morrisville State opened with an unassisted tally at the 11:05 mark of the third, Geswaldo's third of the day, before Kings rallied for four within three minutes time to tie the contest at seven with six to go. Biggs broke the tie with the second Morrisville State extra-man score at 4:48 to give the hosts the 8-7 lead, but Brett O'Neill quickly tied the contest for a second time with a tally seconds later. Biggs once again gave the Mustangs the one goal lead at the 3:17 mark, before Dovi posted three straight tallies, including a dive that ricocheted off Monarch keeper George Pfeiffer to extend the Morrisville State lead to four, 12-8, after three quarters. O'Neill registered the lone score of the fourth quarter for Kings, netting the unassisted tally at 11:30 before Catalfano closed out the contest for the Mustangs with two stops to secure the win. Morrisville State won the ground ball battle, 26-25, with Nate Bizub (Tully, N.Y.) and Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) each picking up four. Morrisville Sate returns to the field Saturday, traveling to SUNY Potsdam for a final non-conference match before opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on April 1st against Medaille. Morrisville State College's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses.
