The Widener University lacrosse team clashed with Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon, outshooting the Bobcats 51-38, but dropping the match 12-11. Highlights Connor Heisman recorded his third hat-trick of the season, giving him 14 on the year Paz Gismondi tallied four assists Kyle Groark scored his first two goals of 2019 Timmy Certeza had a goal and an assist Bryan Facciani scooped five ground balls and caused three turnovers Carter Landry made 16 saves Frostburg jumped out to a quick two goal advantage less than three minutes into regulation. Back-and-forth from there, the Pride responded with two unanswered scores. The first came from the stick of Kyle Groark, and the second from Nick DiIorio off of an assist from Paz Gismondi. After the Bobcats regained the lead, Widener put up three more, coming from Connor Ball, Robbie Johnston (man-down), and Heisman. Frostburg got one back and the Pride held a 5-4 edge going into the second quarter. Certeza found the back of the cage 48 seconds into quarter number two. Two straight from FSU tied it. Alternating goals, spanning one minute and four seconds, made it 7-7 with a little over six minutes remaining in the half. A man-up goal by each team in the final three minutes forced an 8-8 deadlock at the intermission. Defensive adjustments at the break allowed for just two goals in the third period, one by each team. Both attacks struggled to generate offense midway through the fourth quarter until DiIorio got his second of the day, making it 10-9 Widener. Exactly one minute later, Heisman got his third of the competition, matching the Pride's largest lead of the contest at two goals. Three straight from Frostburg during a four-minute stretch put the Bobcats up one, cementing the final score. Up next Widener begins MAC Commonwealth play, traveling to Albright on Wednesday March 27 to face the Lions at 4:00 p.m.
