NEWTON, Mass.— A dramatic 12-11 overtime come-from-behind men's lacrosse win over Lasell University was the perfect way for the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds to return to play after a 367 day pause. Rookie Charlie McFadden's goal 22 seconds into the extra period gave the Thoroughbreds its first lead of the game and capped a five-goal comeback. McFadden finished with two goals and three assists for five points. Classmate Charlie Kessler scored four goals and had an assist. Fellow rookie Matt Pinckney added three goals and Brandon Reilly had two goals. Jason Shlonsky contributed a goal and an assist. Paul Heffernan had a team-high six ground balls. Goalie Christopher Downey racked-up 10 saves for the win. Down 6-1 early in the second quarter, Skidmore chipped away tying it 9-9 on a pair of fourth quarter goals seconds apart. Kessler scored from Shlonsky at 11:39. Joe Breen won the faceoff and sent Reilly in with the tying goal with 11:32 left. Lasell scored the next to for a 11-9 advantage, but the Thoroughbreds had another comeback in them. Kessler cut it to 11-10 from McFadden with 5:21 left in regulation. McFadden then set-up Pinckney at 1:59 to send the game into overtime. Breen won the overtime faceoff and Skidmore quickly moved the ball around with John Sveen finding McFadden for the winner. The Thoroughbreds' March 20 game with Plattsburgh has been postponed. The team is looking for a new opponent. If not, it's the Liberty League opener at home on March 27 at 1 p.m. against Union.
