The Moravian College men's lacrosse team held a four-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter and held off a late charge to post a 9-7 non-conference victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida. The Greyhounds, now 4-0 on the season, were led by senior attack Mark Laratta, who had three goals and two assists. Junior attack Cade Siddron added a pair of goals and two ground balls while senior midfielder Alec Oriolo, sophomore midfielder Matt Comini, freshman attack Connor James and freshman midfielder Nick Nolder each had one goal. Senior goalie Kurt Dick recorded 16 saves and scooped up five ground balls in the victory while junior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Rick Guerra was 11-for-19 on face-offs to go along with four ground balls while senior midfielder Robert Gellatly had three ground balls and senior defender John Polich contributed four caused turnovers. Laratta opened the scoring 2:30 into the contest while Siddron gave the Hounds a 2-1 lead at the 7:45 mark, which was also the score after the first quarter of play finished. Wentworth would tally the only two scores of the second quarter to hold a 3-2 edge at the intermission. The Tigers scored the opening goal of the second half before Siddron scored again with 12:47 to go in the third quarter. Laratta tied the contest three and a half minutes later, and he would set up a goal from Comini midway through the period. Oriolo tallied an unassisted goal a minute later as the Blue and Grey moved up 6-4. James and Nolder would score in the final four minutes of the quarter as six straight goals had the Hounds leading 8-4 after 45 minutes of action. Wentworth put in the first two goals of the fourth quarter to pull within 8-6 with seven minutes remaining. The Tigers scored again with just under five minutes remaining before Laratta sealed the match with his third goal of the afternoon with just 21 seconds left. Moravian is slated to be back in action on Saturday, March 9 when the squad returns to John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem to host Rosemont College in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
