Marywood University scored 11 consecutive goals to an erased an early deficit en route to a 19-4 victory over Cazenovia College Sunday to kick off the men's lacrosse season. It marked its highest scoring production since 2018 and largest victory in three seasons. Zach Vaughan scored six goals to join Marywood's 100 Point Club for his career. With 96 points heading into the opener, the senior attack set a new career high for single-game goals and matched his best for points. He also added eight ground balls. Vaughan now has 102 points for his career. The win also stands as the largest point differential in a non-conference win since a 26-0 clean sheet over Penn State Abington in 2011. It ends the Pacers' streak of five consecutive season-opening losses that dates back to 2014. Zach Bradbury engineered the Pacers' offensive outing at the faceoff-x. Bradbury won 21 of 22 faceoff chances (95.4 percent) with 14 ground balls, establishing new career-bests in both categories. His performance was the second-most faceoff wins for a single game in school history. Freshman Dalton Metzger opened his collegiate career with the second-most single-game assists and fourth-most single-game points in school history. Metzger finished with three goals and six assists for nine points with seven ground balls. Eric Morin kicked off his senior campaign with a hat trick. Jeff Johnsen provided two goals and two assists for four points, coupled with three ground balls. In goal, Connor Reed made six saves – allowing just two goals – with six ground balls to his credit. Matt Leen made four stops. Other notable performances on the ground ball game included Tyler Wren (four), Tom Gibson (four), Ryan Matthews (three), and Matt Dudley (three). Marywood outshot the Wildcats by a 55-24 margin. The Pacers were 19 of 23 on clear attempts and kept Cazenovia to a 14 of 22 rate. Marywood won the ground ball game by an outstanding 62-21 margin. Cazenovia went ahead 1-0 within the first three minutes when Giovanni Kelso found the net at 12:39. Matthews set the tone with a caused turnover on the defensive end, picked up by Joe Guida. Johnsen fed a ball to Zach Saneman for an equalizer at the 9:41 mark of the first quarter. Vaughan had the go-ahead goal on the first of Metzer's first helper with 6:33 remaining. In the second quarter, Johnsen and Vaughan scored within eight seconds of each other. Five minutes later, Metzger and Vaughan teamed up for goals within 16 seconds of another. Metzger capped the run with 5:24 left in the half, the Pacers' 11th goal in less than 20 minutes. Kieran Scanlan and Bailey Tuturice each provided the first goals of their careers. Marywood (1-0) welcomes Arcadia University on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The Knights defeated Marywood 17-9 last season in the only meeting between the two schools.
