Justin LaDuke had a strong outing with 21 saves and four different Roos scored two or more goals as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team picked up an important 14-8 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win v. SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon. THE BASICS Result: SUNY Canton 14, SUNY Delhi 8 Location: SUNY Canton Turf – Canton, NY Records: SUNY Canton (1-1, 1-1 NAC) | SUNY Delhi (1-3, 1-2 NAC) HOW IT HAPPENED The Roos came flying out of the gates offensively scoring seven first quarter goals as six different players found the back of the net in the opening 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the Roos defense was stifling allowing just one goal, while forcing eight first quarter turnovers by the Broncos. Canton continued to control play in the second quarter outscoring Delhi 3-1 to take a commanding 10-2 lead into intermission. SUNY Canton held a 5-0 advantage on faceoffs in the second quarter as Nick Walberger won all five draws for the Roos. SUNY Canton outscored the Broncos 3-2 in the third quarter and scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to open up a 14-4 advantage. Delhi responded with four consecutive goals to trim the deficit to 14-8 but the Roos closed the door as neither team scored the final six minutes of the game. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Justin LaDuke was impressive in goal for the Roos making 21 saves on the day while allowing just eight goals (.724 save percentage). Hunter Olsen posted game-highs of six points and four goals, while picking up seven ground balls and dishing out a pair of assists. Zack LaFave finished with two goals and three assists, while Jacob Facey and Kyle Fingar tallied three goals and one assist each. The duo also combined for eight ground balls. Trent Dow registered a goal, an assist and six ground balls, while Brandon Schmidt finished with a goal and game-best nine ground balls. Walberger went 15-for-23 in the X and picked up seven ground balls Aidan Costello led the visitors with four goals, while Brandon McGrath had three assists. James Sullivan posted eight saves allowing 12 goals over the first 44:22 in the loss. Canton had the upper hand in ground balls (49-34) and face offs (15-9). WHAT'S NEXT The men's lacrosse team is back in action next Saturday (4/10) when they visit SUNY Poly at 1 p.m.
