The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a record-setting performance in a 26-6 win over the University of Dallas on Sunday. Senior Sam Hitt broke two program records and the Hawks set a new team record for goals scored in a game and tied the team record for margin of victory. Hitt broke the Hawks' records for most faceoff wins in a game (29) and most ground balls (21). Hitt and former Hawk Brandon Sewell held the previous record for faceoff wins with 27. Hitt's 21 ground balls broke Sewell's record of 17 set in 2013. As a team, Huntingdon's 26 goals were one better than the previous record set in 2015 and the 20-goal margin of victory tied the mark set by the 2015 team against Centenary and the 2017 team against Dallas. The Hawks' 69 shots in Sunday's game tied a team record and their 46 shots on goal set a new program record. Huntingdon (1-1) set the tone quickly, scoring twice in the first three minutes of the game and building a 9-1 lead early in the second quarter. The Hawks led 15-4 at halftime as younger players began to take the field in the second half. Hitt finished 29-for-35 on faceoffs and scored three goals to go with his 21 ground balls. Mac Puller and Adrian Harper each had four goals and an assist. Puller also had five ground balls. Bryce Coates scored twice, made four assists, picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Zach Barnhill and Brayden Puckett each had two goals and two assists. Barnhill also had four ground balls and Puckett had two caused turnovers. Carmen Fuentes scored twice and had one assist and Will Syme scored twice. Miles Stading, Caleb Bohrer and Cole Foster each had one goal and one assist and Austen Saucier and Gavin McNeill each scored once. Starting goalie Matt Murphy recorded two saves and allowed four goals in 30 minutes. Goalie Stephen Dan had one save in the third quarter and goalie Nicholas Mazza had three saves and two goals allowed in the fourth quarter.
