The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team won its season-best third consecutive game with an 11-6 triumph over visiting Drew University on a gusty Saturday afternoon. The Aggies got back to .500 on the year at 4-4 overall while the Rangers dropped to 1-8. Freshman Ben Napieralski carried the team to a 3-0 lead after 11 minutes of play with three unassisted tallies and DelVal maintained the three goal cushion into the second. Less than three minutes into the second stanza, Alex Gunderson made a nice dish to set up Brandon Keller for his eighth of the season and a 4-0 lead. Drew got on the board 9:20 into the second as Seamus O'Connor setup Kevin Goettlich. The Aggies got it right back just over 30 seconds later as Napieralski setup behind the cage and found Gunderson camped out in front, and the sophomore did not miss. DelVal outshot the Rangers 10-7 in shots on goal and took a 5-1 lead at the break. Drew got a quick one in the second half when Goettlich set up Kyle MacDonnell for his first of the day, but Gunderson answered right back for the Aggies less than a minute later. Still in the third quarter, Keller completed his hat trick with a pair of goals set up by Jordan Smith and separated by just 59 seconds to make it 8-2, DelVal. O'Connor scored twice before the end of the third to make it an 8-4 game going into the final 15 minutes of play. 80 seconds into the fourth, O'Connor netted his third straight to pull the Rangers within three. Napieralski fired back with two more goals for his fourth and fifth of the game to give the Aggies another five-goal cushion, 10-5, and ultimately put the game away. Each team scored once more before the final buzzer and DelVal walked away with the 11-6 win. Napieralski's five goals and one helper for six points was a season-high for the rookie and Keller followed with three goals. Smith finished with two assists and one tally and Gunderson added three points on two goals and an assist. Bryan Thompson won 10-fo-19 faceoffs and grabbed a pair of ground balls while freshman Sean Mylod scooped a team-high six ground balls and caused three turnovers. Orterro Felton followed up his mighty performance from earlier in the week with four ground balls today. Keeper Gavin Yingling won improved to 3-0 on the season with a career-high 13 saves in the win. O'Connor led the Rangers with three goals and one assist for four points and Kyle MacDonnell followed with a pair of goals. Miles Savage won 10-of-20 face offs and keeper Nate Sanders matched Yingling with 13 saves in the game. The Aggies will take to the road for the next game at Wesley College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before returning home to begin Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play against FDU-Florham at 4 p.m. on April 3.
