MADISON, N.J. – Junior Nate Sanders made a career-high 21 saves but the Drew University men's lacrosse team lost by a final of 10-5 to SUNY Maritime Wednesday evening at a frigid Ranger Stadium. By the Numbers The Rangers saw their record dip to 0-3 while Maritime pushed its season mark to 1-1. Highlights • Junior Kyle MacDonnell scored late in the opening quarter to make it a 1-1 game, then again early in the second half to hand the Rangers their only lead of the night. The Privateers would outscore Drew 5-1 over the remainder of the half to assume a 6-3 lead at the intermission. • Junior Seamus O'Connor struck midway through the third quarter to make it a two-goal game; however, Maritime used a 4-0 run that spanned into the fourth quarter to open up a six-goal lead. • O'Connor scored his third goal with 8:57 left to make it 10-5, but neither side would find the back of the net the rest of the night. Top Performers • Facing a 42-shot attack, Sanders exceeded his previous career-high by four. His 21 stops are tied for the fourth-most in school history. • Sophomore defender Jonny Bronander also posted a big defensive performance with nine ground balls and four caused turnovers. • O'Connor finished with three goals and one assist while MacDonnell netted a pair of tallies. • Junior Kevin Goettlich dished out three assists. • Sophomore Miles Savage went 11-for-18 on face-offs and scooped six ground balls. Stat Sheet Maritime finished with a 42-33 shot advantage and a 45-39 edge in ground balls. The two sides combined for just five penalties and the Rangers were whistled only twice. Next Up Drew returns home on Saturday, when it takes on Centenary University at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
