It was a heartbreaking way to end your collegiate career. Led by senior Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville),and three of his Goucher College men's lacrosse senior teammates helped rally the Gophers and send the game to overtime, but Drew University scored 54 seconds left in the extra session to give the nine seniors a more forgettable than unforgettable memory in a 14-13 overtime loss in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday, Freshman Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and Grant Lasorda (Collegeville, Pa./Germantown Academy) scored back-to-back tallies in a span of 31 seconds to erase a one-goal deficit and give Goucher a one-goal edge at 13-12 with 13 seconds left in regulation. The Rangers then won the ensuing faceoff and went down and scored to tie the game and send the game into overtime. Drew then won the faceoff in the extra session and after two misfires found the back of the net 56 seconds into overtime. Coming into the game, Harnish needed seven points to reach the 100-point mark. He finished with five goals and one assist in the game on Saturday to finish his career one point shy of the lacrosse benchmark. Fellow seniors Lasorda (2 goals), Mason Gorman (Boise, Idaho/Eagle) (3 assists) and Jimmy Russo (Frederick, Md./St. John's Catholic (1 goal) also posted points in their final collegiate contest. Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) notched his third hat trick of the season and ended his junior campaign with 22 goals and two assists for 24 points. Sade, Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) (13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points), Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) (19 goals and 10 assists for 29 points, who had a goal and assist against the Rangers, and Evans (15 tallies and seven assists for 22 points) will go into next season as the team's top returning scorers in 2020. After spotting Drew a 5-0 lead, Sade scored unassisted at 5:34 and Harnish found the twine at 4:10 to cut the margin to 5-2 going into the second quarter. Harnish started the scoring in the second quarter with consecutive scores off feeders from Gorman at 10:46 and 9:43 to cut the margin to 5-4. After a Ranger goal, Harnish tied the game at 6 on back-to-back twine twinklers at 2:33 and 1:53, but Drew scored with 19 seconds left to reclaim the lead at the break, 7-6. Goucher scored all three markers in the third quarter. Lasorda scored unassisted at 14:26, Gorman set up Sade at 13:53 and Russo got into the net of a Nigel Bowden (Rosedale, Md./Archbishop Curley) assist at 9:02 to give the Gophers a 9-7 edge going into the final frame. The Rangers scored the first three tallies of the fourth to take a 10-9 lead. Sade scored off what would be Harnish's final collegiate point No. 99 to even the game with 5:50 left. The two teams traded goals with Heath answering at 3:35 to tie the game at 11. After another Drew tally, Evans tied the game with 44 seconds on the clock and Lasorda almost had the ultimate senior game-winning goal moment off a Heath feeder with 13 ticks on the clock. The Rangers scored to tie the game and won the season finale in overtime. Sam Gravel (Rockville, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) paced the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers while Lukas Glaser (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Robert Carrigan (Sparrows Point, Md./Sparrows Point) made his first collegiate start in between the pipes on senior day and made one save in 7:38 minutes of action while Alex Shields (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) made 13 saves in the final 53:18 of the game including some possible top play nominees. Prior to the game, Goucher honored its nine-member 2019 senior class. All nine seniors including Jeremy Buckler (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph), who missed most of the season with an injury, started in the game. Harnish, who led the team with 32 goals and nine assists for 41 points in 2019, wraps up his standout career with 74 goals and 25 assists for 99 points along with 85 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers in 59 games including 43 starts. Gorman, who had three assists in the game against Drew, finishes his career with 49 goals and 29 assists for 78 points along with 58 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in 56 games including 20 starts. Lasorda, who scored twice against the Rangers, ends his career with 37 goals and 10 assists for 47 points along with 29 ground balls and three caused turnovers in 51 games including 12 starts in his career. Eric Bowden (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall), his brother Nigel had an assist in the game, finishes his career with two goals and three helpers for five points, 54 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers in 50 career games including a senior day start. He had three ground balls in the game on Saturday. Mike Del Vecchio (Worchester, Pa./Methacton) finishes his career with two goals and four assists for six points, nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers in 38 career games including two starts. Carrigan finishes his career with 15 saves in 58 minutes of action in between the pipes in nine games including one start on senior day. Nick DeOto (Germantown, Md,/Seneca Valley), who came to Goucher after two years at a community college, had one ground ball against Drew and finishes his career with 10 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers in 23 games including three starts. Russo, who had one goal against the Rangers, ends his career with seven goals and six assists for 13 points along with 14 ground balls and two caused turnovers in 28 games including six starts. Buckler, who was on the field at the start of the game before he was removed after a Goucher timeout, had 10 goals and four assists for 14 points along with 24 ground balls and four caused turnovers in 37 career games including six starts. Bowden, Buckler, Glorman, Harnish, Lasorda all went to Australia for their study abroad semester and won a state lacrosse championship while Down Under. The Goucher team and coaches wore teal ribbons during the game to help raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is the month of April.
