BALTIMORE– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse erased an 11-8 fourth-quarter deficit to grab a 12-11 lead late, but the Frostburg State Bobcats (2-1) scored twice in the final 81 seconds to earn a 13-12 lead in a non-league game held at Johns Hopkins. Colin Piper had four goals and an assist to lead the Eastern attack. How It Happened: Eastern trailed 9-8 with one quarter to play, and the Bobcats scored the first two goals of the frame to lead 11-8 with nine and a half minutes to play. The Eagles won the ensuing face-off and Hassan Mackey found Piper on the back post for his second goal of the game. Moments later, the two combined again after an extended possession that started with Chris Durning knifing a ball free and collecting one of his game-high 15 ground balls. The Eagles lost the face-off at 11-10, but Cole Millard forced a turnover to win the ball back. Piper picked up a loose ball around the crease and dunked home the tying goal in close to tie the score with a little more than five minutes to play. The Eagles grabbed the 12-11 lead when Anotonio Yeoman found Mark Buannic in close for a bounce shot. The goal came with a flag on the ground for a cross check. The Bobcats won the man-down face-off, and though the Eagles forced a turnover, they were unable to hold possession and Frostburg returned to the attack to kill the one minute penalty. The Bobcats scored to tie the game just before the possession clock expired. The Bobcats won the next face-off and Brett McDonald made a great save to win back possession, but the Eagles failed in the clear, and Frostburg tok the lead on a transition goal. The Bobcats won the final face-off off, but Yeoman popped a ball loose to give the Eagles one final chance with 15 seconds to play. The Eagles missed on a passing combination to end the game. The Eagles had a 6-4 lead in the first half, but the Bobcats scored twice in the final 16 seconds to send the game to half tied. The Eagles won 11 of 13 first-half face-offs. David Thomas and Yeoman opened the second half with goals. Both freshmen finished the day with two goals. Sean Fechter scored a pair of first-quarter goals. Coach Wallace Says: "It was a game that saw a lot of back-and-forth, we stayed resilient. Even down three, we battled to give ourselves a chance to be there at the end. A bunch of guys played at the level we know than can today. If we can get consistency in that, we are going to be a in much better spot come April." Up Next: The Eagles will fly to Clearwater tomorrow morning and will play Otterbein on Saturday afternoon.
