Eastern University Men's Lacrosse remained unbeaten in the MAC Freedom with a third-consecutive one-goal win. Sam Emig scored a man-up goal 27 seconds into overtime to lift the Eagles to their second overtime win this week. How It Happened: The Eagles led 7-6 with with two minutes to play. King's called timeout with the ball in the attacking end. Logan Barlok picked off a pass and the Eagles ran the clear through Jimmy Kurnik. That turnover gave the Eagles the ball with a chance to run the clock down to very late, Emig had a clear shot to put the game away, but King's goalie Matt Basile went low and scooped a save. The Monarchs tied the game with a transition goal with 41 seconds to play. King's had a chance for the win when Trevor Douenais won the face-off. The Monarchs worked in close for a chance when Kurnik picked off a pass and raced toward midfield. The Eagles had an odd-man chance going to goal when Kurnik was upended by a trailing defender for a penalty. With the late penalty, the Eagles would start overtime with the ball and an extra man. That advantage proved to be enough as Emig got the advantage of a deflected ball to beat Bassile high. Emig was looking to feed a cutting Colin Piper, but a defenseman jabbed at the ball and it deflected in to end the game. The Eagles jumped out to great start with three goals in the first five minutes, but the visiting Monarchs slowed the game down and gradually worked back into the game. Kyle Fanelli scored on the crease off a dish from Drew Johnson. Fanelli then fed Emig for hard shot from 15 yards for a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later, Hassan Mackey fed Antonio Yeoman for another blistering shot from distance and a 3-0 lead only three minutes and 14 seconds into the game. The Monarchs scored a transition goal with three minutes left in the first before Trent Ashton rolled the crease for a 4-1 lead with only seconds to go before the end of the first quarter. King's (3-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) closed the gap to 5-3 with two goals on either side of a Mark Buannic strike in the second. The Eagles had a 27-14 edge in shots heading to the locker room, but the lead on the scoreboard was only 5-3. When the Eagles scored the first goal in the third quarter on a beautiful shot to the top corner by Trent Ashton, it looked like the Eagles might pull away. The Monarchs, however, had other plans. They scored twice in a one-minute stretch to pull back with in a goal with four minutes to play in the third. Mark Buannic scored a man-up goal late in the third, but the Eastern offense went quiet. King's scored to pull within a goal midway through the fourth. Brett McDonald made eight saves to pick up the win in goal. Anthony Firmani won 10-of-13 face-offs to help the Eagles to a possession advantage. Coach Wallace Says: "It is who we are right now. We score seven times on 46 shots, that is not going to get it done. If we shoot 33 percent, which is our goal, that is a very different game. We got off to a great start but were not able to keep the momentum going. We got a couple really being defensive plays from Logan and Jimmy down the stretch to preserve the win."
