The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse was topped by Eastern University 13-8 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Wednesday evening. The Devils are now 6-6 on the season, 2-3 in the MAC Freedom, as Eastern remains unbeaten in the conference at 5-0. The Eagles dominated the first quarter outscoring the Devils 5-0. The Devils were outshot 17-2 in the quarter but nearly scoring on the second shot but sophomore Drew Bukowiec's shot as time expired hit the post. Junior Adam Reifer had five saves in the quarter. The Devils offense found the back of the net on their ninth shot of the night when Bukowiec found the back of the net for his 14th goal of the year. The Devils were able to net their second goal of the night with 3:09 remaining in the first half when junior John Guido rifled a shot past the Eagles goalkeeper to make it 8-2. After Eastern tallied another insurance goal, senior Michael Warg caused a turnover in front of the Eagles net and then found the back of the next to make it 9-3 with just over 10 minutes left in the third quarter. Moments later, Bukowiec went top shelf for his second goal of the night. Bukowiec completed the hat trick on the very next possession to bring the Devils to within four at 9-5. Bukowiec continued his hot night with his fourth goal of the night within the first minute of the final quarter to make it 9-6. The Devils would be unable to get any closer, as the visiting Eagles potted the next three goals over the next 2:22 to re-establish a six-goal lead. The two sides traded goals before junior Pat Stewart's man-up tally with 2:31 left in the contest capped off scoring for both sides. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE • Reifer made 16 saves, one off of his season-high. He has made 10 or more saves on eight different occasions this season. • Bukowiec matched his career-high with four goals while adding an assist. • Freshman MacGyver Hay had four caused turnovers, four ground balls and won a team-best six faceoffs. • Senior Kyle Conrad had a goal while equaling Hay with a team-high four ground balls. • Rookie Zane Johnston tallied a pair of assists in the setback.
