The No. 3 RIT (15-2) men's lacrosse team rolled to its tenth consecutive win, 20-10 over Clarkson University (9-6) in the 2017 Liberty League Men's Lacrosse Championship Semifinals from RIT's Turf Field on Friday afternoon. The top-seeded Tigers, who are vying for their sixth straight Liberty League title, will face No. 2 seed St. Lawrence University in the championship game on Sunday at noon. "Today was a good win for us," said RIT head coach Jake Coon. "The guys came out and showed good energy and played unselfish today. We buried more of our shots today offensively than we did the first game up there." RIT scored the first six goals of the game against the fourth-seed Golden Knights and never looked back, leading 6-1 after the first quarter and 10-3 at the half. The Tigers out-scored Clarkson 10-7 in the second half to advance to Sunday's title game against the No. 5 Saints. St. Lawrence defeated No. 3 seed Vassar, 11-7 in the other semifinal Friday. Shots were 58-39 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 52-30. The Tigers won 22-of-33 face-offs and went 25-of-28 on clearing attempts. RIT caused 17 of Clarkson's 22 turnovers. Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy), RIT's all-time leading scorer, led the Tigers with seven points on five goals and two assists. Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) tallied five points on four goals and an assist, while Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling) finished with two goals and two assists. Ben Tackett (Butler, PA/The Kiski School), Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) and Kyle Killen (Peterborough, ON/Crestwood Secondary ) each scored a pair of goals. Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) tallied a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) got the win in net, making 14 saves over the first three quarters before Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) came in and stopped three fourth quarter shots. Nate Farrell (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was tremendous from the face-off "X" winning 17-of-20 draws to go along with a team-high 10 ground balls. Alex Maruna (Medina, OH/St. Ignatius) and Eli Salama (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) each caused three turnovers, while Maruna had five ground balls. Patrick Hannigan (Hanover, MA/Hanover) had three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Denning Crenshaw (San Diego, CA/Helix) caused a turnover. Ryan DaRin led Clarkson with five points on three goals and two assists. Shane Kilday tallied three goals, while Kyle Brown finished with a pair of goals. Nick Strandholm made in 19 saves in net for Clarkson, taking the loss. RIT jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first six goals of the game. MacDonald's goal with 3:10 to play in the quarter gave the Tigers a six-goal cushion. Levick, Killen, Milburn, Lee and Tackett each scored for the Tigers. DaRin scored off a feed from Kilday on a man-up chance late in the quarter to break the RIT run. The Tigers tallied four times in the second quarter to lead 10-3 at halftime. Levick opened the scoring in the quarter on his 42nd goal of the season off an assist from Lee at the 11:28 mark. Kilday converted one of three man-up goals for Clarkson, scoring with 9:34 to play in the quarter. Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Lee tallied consecutive goals for RIT, extending the Tigers lead to 9-2 on Lee's goal off a feed from Hall with 4:10 to play in the half. After DaRin cut the lead to 9-3, Lee scored with 2:47 to play to give RIT a seven-goal lead at the break. Clarkson scored two early goals in the third quarter, cutting the RIT lead to 11-5 om Kyle Brown's goal at the 10:44 mark. Anthony DiGiovanni cut the RIT lead to 12-6 with his goal at the 6:04 mark of the quarter. That would be as close as Clarkson would get, as RIT closed out the quarter strong, tallying four straight goals. MacDonald, Lee (twice) and Levick each scored to give the Tigers a 16-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Tigers tacked on a pair of goals from Tosaya, and one each from Levick and John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) in the fourth quarter, while Kilday (2) and Brown each scored for the Golden Knights. RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 29-15. The Tigers avenged a 9-6 loss to the Golden Knights on March 25. Since then, RIT has won 10 straight games, scoring 201 goals during that stretch. The Tigers have scored at least 20 goals in four consecutive games. RIT will host the Liberty League Championship game for the sixth straight season. The Tigers, who are ranked third in this week's Nike/USILA Division III poll, defeated St. Lawrence 19-12 on April 1 at RIT. It is St. Lawrence's only loss of the season. "The guys are excited to play on Sunday," said Coon. "Hopefully we can keep it rolling."
