Despite a record-setting effort by senior goalkeeper Dylan Cost and a balanced effort on both ends of the field, the North Central College men's lacrosse team surrendered a 13-11 loss to Elmhurst College (8-5, 3-1 CCIW) on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Bluejays put up the first tally just under three minutes into play but Tommy Huizinga responded less than a minute later with an unassisted goal to tie it. Elmhurst added two more goals before senior Danny Boyle, returning to his first game this season after a serious injury, got an assist from Jared Weaver to score. North Central's defense and tremendous goaltending by senior Dylan Cost helped keep the score low and the Bluejays from running away with the game before senior Tanner James added back-to-back goals off of assists from Weaver to give the Cardinals their first lead of the contest and close out the first period, 4-3. Elmhurst scored twice to open the second period before James notched his third goal of the contest to tie it 5-5. The Bluejays had the final two goals before going into halftime with the 7-5 advantage. North Central kick-started the scoring in the second half with goals from Weaver and Huizinga, tying the game yet again, and despite the Bluejays taking a brief lead with just under seven minutes to go in the third period, Boyle buried one in the back of the net, making it 8-8 to open the fourth period. The Cardinals' momentum was briefly halted after Elmhurst scored three goals to open the fourth period, but North Central was not deterred, scoring three goals of their own including the tying goal from defenseman Steven Dale with 4:27 remaining in regulation. Unfortunately, the Bluejays were not willing to go to overtime, as the team's leading scorer, Mac Harden scored two goals before time expired. James had four goals while Boyle, Huizinga, and Weaver had two each. Weaver led the Cardinals with four assists, good for six points in the game. Cost had a team-high seven groundballs to go with his record-setting 23 saves. Steven Faux, Sean Tomonari, and Steven Dale had three caused turnovers each. The Cardinals' (8-4, 1-3 CCIW) next game is on the road at the University of Dubuque on Apr. 24 with the game slated for 6 p.m.
