(Rotch Field) Date: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 The Lead: Freshman Skyler Celotto (Westport, Conn.) tallied five of the Lions six goals in the Emerson men's lacrosse team's 10-6 setback to the Mass.-Dartmouth Cosairs on Wednesday night to wrap its three-game home stand. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Celotto netted five goals on nine shots (five on goal) and senior Jared Brush (Detroit, Mich.) tallied one goal while senior Marshall Tate (Taunton, Mass.) dished out two assists. Junior Austin DiPietro (Clermont, Fla.) scooped a team-high eight ground balls and won 11-of-20 in the X, while both Tate and sophomore Jiwon Kim (McLean, Vir.) caused two turnovers each. In net for Emerson was freshman Malcolm McGrath (Ridgefield, Conn.), who allowed 10 goals through the full 60 in between the pipes and came away with 14 saves on 24 shots. Mike Rizzo tallied three goals for Mass.-Dartmouth and was followed by two goals apiece from Tim Jordan, Kevin Swenson and Donovan Prozinkski and saw one goal from Zak Wirsen. Prozinski also had two helpers along with his two goals while Jake Coombes and Alexi Fauzey each picked up four ground balls and Sawyer Gibbons finished 6-of-11 in the face-off circle. Ted McCaffery earned the win for the visitors with seven saves and allowed six goals on 13 total shots. Emerson beat Mass.-Dartmouth within the X (11-9) and scooped up 32 ground balls to the Cosairs 32. The Lions successfully cleared 18-of-2 attempts and capitalized on 2-of-5 man-up opportunities, while the Cosairs cleared 13-of-18 and were 0-for-1 in its lone extra man chance. HOW IT HAPPENED Jordan gave Mass.-Dartmouth the 1-0 lead at the 11:15 mark, which lasted for the next 1:15 until Brush put in the tying goal at 10:00. A little over the midway point of the first, Swenson closed out the frame's scoring at 5:43 to give the Cosairs the one-goal lead (2-1). Emerson took the first half of the second quarter to put in two goals, both by Celotto, to take its first lead of the game. The first goal came at 11:34 with the extra man when Celotto fired in a pass from Tate to even the score at 2-2 and followed up with an unassisted net a minute later to give the Lions a 3-2 edge. After Emerson had grabbed the advantage, Mass.-Dartmouth answered with three goals, starting with Jordan's second goal of the game at 8:13 to knot the game at 3-3. The Cosairs tallied the go-ahead goal at 6:09 from Prozinski before Rizzo gave the visitors an insurance net at 5:33 (5-3) as the Lions entered the half in a two goal deficit. Celotto spread two goals in the 9:54 and 4:01 mark to push Emerson back within one goal on both occasions, but Rizzo answered at 1:34 with a pair of his own to give the visitors a three-goal advantage going into the final 15 minutes. Prozinski extended Mass.-Dartmouth's lead up to four (9-5) 51 seconds into the fourth before Celotto put in his final goal (9-6) a Swenson iced Emerson's loss with an unassisted net at the 4:07 mark.
