Three different Terriers scored their first collegiate goals and junior Sean Christman went 15-for-21 at the faceoff X, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-5 setback to Providence on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. BU opened its 2020 season with four freshmen in the starting lineup, including Louis Perfetto, Thomas Niedringhaus and Vince D'Alto, who all notched a goal. Perfetto added an assist to join sophomore Timmy Ley (1g, 1a) as Terriers with two-point afternoons. Senior Jared Nugent also found the back of the net while junior Tommy Nook provided an assist on Ley's marker. Defender Collin Loughead was the other Terrier rookie to start and he collected six ground balls and forced two turnovers in his debut. Junior Sean Christman had a strong day at the faceoff X, winning 15 of the 21 draws he took and collecting seven ground balls. Senior Joe McSorley made several terrific stops as part of his 12-save performance. Classmate Reece Eddy led all players with five caused turnovers and also added two ground balls. Classmate Chase Levesque recorded four ground balls and was one of nine Terriers to cause a Providence turnover. HOW IT HAPPENED The teams traded a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes, with Ley factoring on both BU markers. Ley tied the game at 1-1 when he converted a nifty feed by Nook. Ley then assisted on Perfetto's first collegiate goal with 1:13 to play in the quarter. Providence scored all six goals in the second quarter to grab an 8-2 lead. BU responded with the first two markers of the third quarter, beginning with D'Alto's first goal just 31 seconds into the stanza. Nugent then ripped home a goal to cut the Providence lead to 8-4 with 9:23 on the clock. The Friars answered that run with three straight goals to close the frame with an 11-4 lead. Niedringhaus used his size to back down a defender and score halfway through the fourth quarter. PC notched the game's final goal with 5:04 remaining in regulation. GAME NOTES Ley has scored a goal in each of his last 10 games dating back to his sensational rookie campaign. Nugent has notched a point in four of his last six games dating back to last season. Nook has recorded a point in each of his two appearances against Providence. The Terriers did not earn a man-up opportunity; Providence went 1-for-2 on its EMOs. BU was 20-of-23 in clear attempts and held Providence to a 22-of-29 mark on its clears. Both teams collected 32 ground balls. UP NEXT BU will welcome No. 12 Ohio State to Nickerson Field on Saturday, Feb. 8. Game time is set for 12 p.m
