ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team put together another second-half rally, but could not get over the hump in a Landmark Conference semifinal at Elizabethtown, falling to the top-seeded Blue Jays, 11-9, on Wednesday afternoon. Scranton, which was the no. 4 seed, trailed 3-0 after a period and 4-2 at halftime, and still faced a 6-3 deficit heading into the final period. But the Royals (8-7) went on a 4-1 spurt to start that fourth period to tie the score at 7 with 9:10 remaining when junior attackman Patrick O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade) scored an unassisted goal. Elizabethtown (13-3) answered with four straight goals, however, and Scranton could manage just two man-up goals in the final 31 seconds of the match. Junior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had another dominant day in the faceoff circle for the Royals, winning 20 of 23 faceoffs. He finishes the season with 181 faceoff wins in 247 attempts, a .733 win percentage. He entered the game ranked sixth in the nation in faceoff win percentage at .719, a ranking that figures to improve after Wednesday's performance. His .733 faceoff win percentage shatters the single-season school record of .660, which he set last season. Freshman attackman Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) led Scranton with three goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) had three goals and O'Rourke finished with two of his own. Freshman attackman Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) added a goal, sophomore attackman Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) had two assists and junior attackman Matt Carfaro (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) had one assist. Drury also had a team-high nine ground balls while junior midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) had six and senior long-stick midfielder Patrick Sawyer (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Acacdemy) finished with five. The Royals held a slim 35-31 edge in shots and led 42-41 in ground balls. They committed 25 turnovers, though, compared to 14 by Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays were also 20 of 22 in clear attempts while Scranton was 15 of 21. Scranton was making its seventh straight Landmark Conference playoff appearance, and the ninth in the conference's 10-year existence.
