TOWSON, Md. – NCAA Tournament Bound!! The top seeded Towson University men's lacrosse team captured its third straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship with a 9-4 victory over No. 3 Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium. The Tigers, who won their seventh conference title overall, were led by the tournament's Most Outstanding Player (MOP) Matt Hoy, who made eight saves in the championship game. He was joined on the All-Tournament team by midfielder Mike Lynch, defender Chad Patterson and face-off specialist Alex Woodall. The Tigers, who earned the conference's automatic bid, will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday, May 7 with the selection show at 9 p.m. HOW IT HAPPENED After the two teams traded goals early, Towson used a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Each team struck once in the second quarter as Ryan Drenner's goal helped the Tigers take a 5-2 lead at the half. The third quarter once again saw both teams trade goals and Towson held on for a 6-3 lead with 15 minutes to play. Towson opened the fourth quarter by scoring three goals and led 9-3 with 59 seconds to play. One of the Tiger goals came as Woodall won the face-off and went straight to goal and scored. UMass scored a late goal but it was not enough as Towson claimed the 9-4 victory.
