MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Top seeded Morrisville State College men's lacrosse claimed their third straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) title Saturday, taking down second seeded Cazenovia College by a 15-3 final on Drake Field in Morrisville. Morrisville State (10-5) advances to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, scheduled to begin next week. The Mustangs will learn their opening round opponent during the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled to take place Sunday night at 9 p.m. on www.ncaa.com. Cazenovia ends their season with a program best 12-3 record. Senior Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) earned Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors, compiling 11 saves in the championship final, adding to his tourney total 20. Across two games, the senior recorded a 3.00 goals against average and 80 save percentage in net. Sophomore attackman Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with five goals and an assist, while Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added two, assisting another two. Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.), Mike Ready (Lafayette, N.Y.), Corey Grace (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.), Adam Sawitsky (Pine Bush, N.Y.), Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.), Teddy Dwyer (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Richard Yelk (Reading, Pa.) each recorded one to contribute to the victory. Morrisville State opened all scoring at the 10:37 mark of the first quarter, as Grace notched the first tally off the feed from Peters. Minutes later, the Mustangs went on a 3-0 run to close out the quarter with a 4-0 lead, netting three tallies in just over two minutes time, including two from Peters and another from Ready. Shannon gave the hosts the 5-0 lead early on in the second, before Cazenovia was able to get one on the board off the stick of Ben Wilson, before Morrisville State added two more for the quarter to send the game into the break with a 7-1 Mustang lead. Cline notched one at 2:51 and Geswaldo added another with 1:11 to go before the halftime period. Morrisville State collected two early on in the third to widen the gap, one from Geswaldo off the feed from Peters, before Biggs buried one during the 30-second warning. Cazenovia collected back to back scores in less than a minutes time, but the Mustangs proved too much as Geswaldo added two more to send it into the final frame with a comfortable 11-3 top seed lead. Morrisville State closed out the contest with four additional tallies in the final frame, including a fifth by Geswaldo with 4:32 to go. The Mustangs dominated the contest in championship fashion, out shooting Cazenovia 43-22, and holding the 29-11 advantage in the ground ball game. Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) also dominated the center X for the hosts, winning 14-of-18 face-offs with nine ground ball pick ups. Nate Bizub (Tully, N.Y.) added two wins from the center, going 2-for-4. Ben Wilson led the Wildcat efforts with two tallies on the day, as Joe Timm added the final Cazenovia goal. Brock Post registered two assists. Alex Delevan turned away 10 between the pipes, three in each of the first two quarters of the day's action. The Mustangs are now one of three teams at Morrisville State to 3-peat, joining men's soccer in the 2016-17 athletic season to claim their third straight title.
