Kenyon College (6-0) scored 11 unanswered as it defeated Oberlin College 16-5 on Saturday to close its regular season. The Lords will now wait and see who they'll play for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship next weekend. Competition was close until late in the second quarter when Kenyon started to pull away. It was 2-0 Lords just a couple minutes in on goals from Ethan Dewbrey and Declan Curry. However, Oberlin knotted things up with a pair of goals itself from Matt Huang and Joey Edell. By the end of the first stanza, Kenyon led 4-3. The Yeomen kept pace with the Lords in the second and eventually tied it at 5-5. After a couple turnovers and penalties on Kenyon, the hosts scored twice to even the scoreboard. At 12:08, Michael Muldoon scored on a man-up opportunity. Five-and-a-half minutes rolled off the clock before Oberlin found the equalizer. At 6:34, Edell fed Thomas Berle Carman to bring the tally to five-all. The Yeomen controlled possession with a face-off win after that tying goal, but two saves from David Metzger kept the score tied. Then in the final four minutes, the Lords started their run. Jack Giuffre passed to Boesel whose shot found the net and another Lords lead, 6-5. Kenyon's first-half scoring was capped off by Dewbrey, who scored on a pass from Mike Matteo. After halftime, the Lords continued pulling away. Matteo scored twice in the third while Boesel and Giuffre scored a goal apiece. The Lords really out-hustled the Yeomen in the period, winning the ground-ball count 14-7. Kenyon's defense was on point too, limiting Oberlin to just two on-goal shots. Both of those were saved by Metzger. In the final period, Mike Asuncion and Curry each scored twice to boost the team's lead to 15-5 with 10:47 left. Kenyon's final goal was delivered by Boesel, his fourth and game-high total. Stay tuned to the athletics website to find out which team the Lords will draw for the NCAC Championship.
