Frostburg first-year Matthew Ward scored six goals and handed out two assists to help lead Frostburg to a 16-7 win over SUNY Oneonta, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. Ward has increased his scoring production in each of the first four games of his career and he led all players with eight points as FSU improved to 3-1 on the season. After a 4-4 tie following the first quarter, Frostburg erupted for 12 goals over the final three quarters and limited the Red Dragons to just three scores over the same time frame. Ward opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals at 14:23 and 9:08 and junior Paul Ruppert scored at 5:02 as the Bobcats built their cushion to 7-4. Ward scored his third of the second frame with 49 seconds left and senior Joe Cooper scored his first career goal with one second left in the half to give the Bobcats a 9-5 lead at intermission. Junior Jimmy Lucas scored 55 seconds into the second half and the Bobcats held a 7-2 scoring edge over the final 30 minutes of action. First-year Jake Bowman scored with 4:08 to play to close the scoring, while sophomore Shawn Winans added his first career goal early in the first quarter. Ruppert finished with three goals and two assists, while junior Jake Howarth scored twice. Frostburg controlled much of the game tempo as it won 19-of-25 faceoffs. Sophomore Michael Thorne posted seven wins, while senior Drew Mash and junior Sam Natvig each won six. Junior Jack Marks played just over 56 minutes and registered 12 saves for the win. Stephen Panno led the Red Dragons with three goals and one assist, while keeper Zachary Flynn posted 16 saves in the loss. The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they host Shenandoah at 3:00 pm.
