ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's lacrosse team advanced to the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship with a convincing 29-8 win over John Carroll in the second round Wednesday afternoon from RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers advance to the round of 16 for the eighth straight season and will host Stevenson University on Saturday. Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) led a potent Tigers offense with seven points on five goals and two assists. Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) finished with five points on three goals and two assists, while John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Dave Shuster (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) each finished with three goals and an assist. In all, 14 different players scored at least one goal, while nine players tallied at least a pair of goals. Lee surpassed the 350-point plateau with his assist on Levick's goal, 6:08 into the game. He now has 225 goals and 128 assists for 353 points in 82 career contests. Levick is now just two points shy of 200 for his RIT career. Shots were 55-22 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 63-25. The Tigers won 25-of-39 face-offs, cleared the ball 14-of-17 times, and went 3-for-3 on man-up chances. Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park), Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary), Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer), and Nick Binnert (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each scored two goals, while Chris Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) tallied his first collegiate goal. Milburn and Riley added two assists apiece. Ben Tackett (Butler, PA/The Kiski School) scored once and dished out a pair of assists. Reid Swier (Red Deer, Alberta/Rimbey) and Kyle Killen (Peterborough, ON/Crestwood Secondary ) had a goal and an assist apiece, while Julien Guay (Oakville, ON/The Hill Academy) also scored. Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) got the win in net for RIT, making five saves, while dishing out an assist. Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) played the entire second half and made two saves. Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) won 21-of-31 face-offs and had eight ground balls. Defensively, Patrick Hannigan (Hanover, MA/Hanover) caused three turnovers, while Joey Menecola (Toronto, Ontario/St. Joseph's Catholic) had two of his own. Declan O'Grady led John Carroll with three goals. Michael Hubert and Collin Rice each scored a pair of goals. Kyle Lake took the loss in net for the Blue Streaks, making 11 saves. RIT scored the first five goals of the game, taking a 5-0 lead on Brown's first collegiate goal midway through the quarter. Levick scored twice, while Lee and Shuster added goals in the early run by RIT. Breaden Kaib broke the RIT run with his goal off an assist from Bryan Neitzelt at 8:06 of the quarter to cut the lead to 5-1. Lee tallied his second of the quarter at the 6:17 mark to increase the RIT lead to 6-1. John Carroll responded at the end of the quarter with three straight goals, cutting the RIT lead to 6-4 on Hubert's tally with 12 seconds to play. O'Grady scored the first two goals of the run to give the Blue Streaks some momentum heading into the second quarter. The Tigers responded by scoring the first seven goals of the second quarter, and out-scored John Carroll 10-2 to take a 16-6 lead into halftime. Levick and JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) each scored twice in the quarter, while Julien Guay (Oakville, ON/The Hill Academy), Reid Swier (Red Deer, Alberta/Rimbey), Wallace, Shuster and Nick Binnert (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) also scored. RIT out-scored John Carroll 13-2 in the second half to cruise home for the win. Hill scored twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth, while Milburn tallied twice in the fourth quarter. It is the second consecutive season that RIT and John Carroll have met in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers have won both meetings by a combined score of 58-14. The Tigers have now won 12 straight games, scoring 243 goals in that stretch. RIT went over 20 goals in a game for the sixth time in 2017. RIT, making its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, is 21-18 all-time in tournament games, including a 16-5 mark at home. RIT, ranked second in the final USILA Division III Coaches poll of the regular season, will host No. 13 Stevenson University (14-5) in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 13 at a time to be determined. The Tigers defeated the Mustangs, 16-13 from RIT's Turf Field on Feb. 25. Lee tallied a career-high nine points (5-4-9) in the win for RIT.
