ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 2 RIT (18-2) men's lacrosse team advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship with a 17-8 win over No. 13 Stevenson University (14-6) in the third round Saturday afternoon from Tiger Stadium. The Tigers will face SUNY Cortland in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 17. It is the seventh time in the last eight years that RIT will appear in the quarterfinals. "I am really pleased with the win today," said RIT head coach Jake Coon. "We got off to a fast start, kept our composure and worked hard all game." Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) led RIT with seven points on three goals and four assists. Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) added six points on five goals and an assist, while Kyle Killen (Peterborough, ON/Crestwood Secondary ) finished with five points on three goals and two assists. Levick became the 10th player in program history to surpass 200 career points. He now has 148 goals and 56 assists for 204 points. Lee's 98 points in 2017 are the second most in a season at the university. He needs two points to become just the second player at RIT to ever surpass 100 in a season and is seven points shy of the school record of 105, set by Josh Molinari in 2004. Shots were 58-35 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 47-38. Each team won 13-of-26 face-offs. The Tigers cleared the ball on 24-of-26 occasions and scored two man-up goals. Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling) had a goal and two assists, while Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) and Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) each had a goal and an assist Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) got the win in net for RIT, making 14 saves. Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) won 10-of-19 face-offs and had five ground balls. JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) and Patrick Hannigan (Hanover, MA/Hanover) each caused two turnovers, while Lee grabbed a team-high seven ground balls. RIT's defense did a tremendous job all afternoon, limiting the Mustangs to just 16 clears in 27 chances. Stevenson also turned the ball over 21 times. Wade Korvin led Stevenson with three points on two goals and an assist. Tyler Fuhrman and Kyle Karsian each scored two goals, and Brandon Watson dished out a pair of assists. Ross Dinan took the loss in net, despite making 16 saves. RIT led 8-3 after the first quarter. Lee scored all three of his goals in the opening quarter, while MacDonald, Levick, Killen and Dave Shuster (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) each scored. Tied 1-1, the Tigers ran off six straight goals, taking a 7-1 lead on Lee's goal off an assist from Killen at 6:25. Korvin scored a man-up goal at the 4:02 mark to cut the RIT lead to 7-2. Levick made it 8-2 with his second goal of the game, but Korvin scored with 10 seconds to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 8-3. Milburn and Levick scored the first two goals of the second quarter to extend the RIT lead to 10-3 with 6:53 left in the half. That score would stay until the last minute of the half, when Stevenson struck twice. Kyle D'Onofrio scored off an assist from Watson with 49 seconds to play, and Korvin scored with two seconds remaining to cut the RIT lead to 10-5 at the half. Hall scored a nifty goal early in the third quarter off an assist from Lee to increase the Tigers lead to 11-5. Kyle Karsian and JT Thelen scored consecutive goals for Stevenson late in the third quarter to cut the RIT lead to 11-7. Dinan made four big saves for Stevenson in the third quarter to keep the Mustangs in the game. Three straight goals to open the fourth-quarter scoring gave the Tigers some breathing room. Wallace scored off an assist from Levick to make it 12-7 RIT. Levick made it 13-7 with his goal at 13:29 off a feed from MacDonald, and Killen scored a spectacular unassisted goal with 10:09 to play to increase the RIT lead to 14-7. After a Fuhrman goal cut the lead to 14-8, goals from Killen, Levick and Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) sealed the win for the Tigers. The Mustangs took 12 penalties for nine minutes, including six in the fourth quarter. The two teams met earlier in the season, with RIT beating the Mustangs 16-13. Lee led RIT with a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists. D'Onofrio tallied five goals and added an assist. RIT is 5-3 all-time versus the Mustangs, having won the last five games. The Tigers have now won 13 straight games, scoring 260 goals over that stretch. RIT has won at least 18 games in a season six times in the last seven seasons. RIT, making its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, is 22-18 all-time in tournament games, including a 17-5 mark at home. It is the seventh time in the last eight years that RIT will appear in the quarterfinals. RIT will take on No. 8 SUNY Cortland in the NCAA Quarterfinals from Tiger Stadium on Wednesday, May 17 at a time to be determined. The Tigers went on the road and defeated Cortland, 15-9 on April 5.
