Nine different Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Tuesday night to help vault the Wolverines to a 16-2 non-conference win over visiting Houghton at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Junior Henry Brannan (Tampa, Fla./Plant) and freshman Blaise Bishop (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) both scored three times for Grove City while junior Andrew Kvasnovsky (York, Pa./Dallastown), freshman Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and freshman Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts RIdge) all scored twice.
Junior David Calhoun (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle), freshman Addison Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon), freshman Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and freshman Josh Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) all added goals.
Gladstone and Speers both assisted three goals each and freshman Jack Atwood (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) had two assists. Evans, Spicher and freshman Will Morgan (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) all tallied one assist.
Bishop and Brannan both scored twice in the first quarter to help Grove City jump out to a 6-0 lead. Brannan and Bishop each scored early in the second quarter to give the Wolverines an 8-0 advantage. Speers, Spicher and Bennett all scored in the final six minutes of the half to give the Wolverines a 12-1 halftime lead.
Evans picked up a team-high eight ground balls while freshman Keith Torrillo (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) had seven ground balls. Freshman Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) collected six ground balls. Torrillo won all 10 of his face-offs while Evans went 7 for 7 on face-offs.
La Forte also caused a team-high four turnovers. Atwood, Calhoun and junior Dominic Quiggle (Elk Grove, Calif./Jesuit) each caused two turnovers.
Grove City owned a 41-13 edge in shots. Houghton had 25 turnovers while Grove City committed 20 turnovers.
In goal, freshman R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) earned the win after making one save in the first half. Freshman Robbie Voinchet (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) made five saves in the second half.
Grove City will host Messiah at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Thorn Field in non-conference play.
