Senior captain John Burke/Richmond had four goals and four assists to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 17-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse road victory at Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday night in Virginia Beach. Junior Jack Hayden/Apex, N.C. added three goals and sophomore Jared Medwar/Apex, N.C. had two goals and one assist for the visiting Tigers (8-3, 3-1), who led 9-3 at halftime against the host Marlins (8-4, 3-2). H-SC jumped out to a 7-1 lead through one quarter, getting goals from Medwar (2g, 1a) at 11:35, sophomore Jake O'Brien/Scituate, Mass. (2g) at 9:25 and :51, Hayden (3g) at 7:58 and 5:17, Burke (4g, 4a) at 3:37 and freshman Presley Miller/Annapolis, Md. (1g, 1a) at :12. Providing assists during the opening quarter were sophomore Reilly French/Frederick, Md. (1g, 1a) at 9:25, Miller at 3:37 and Burke on the last two goals scored during the final minute of the period. The Tigers and VWU played evenly during the second quarter with two goals each, as the visitors led 9-3 at the intermission. Goals were scored by Hayden at 6:05, unassisted, and French at 1:23, assisted by Burke. The Marlins took a 4-1 advantage in the third quarter to close to within 10-7 after 45 minutes of action. Burke tallied the lone goal of the period for the Tigers at 8:41, assisted by Medwar. H-SC took the momentum back in the fourth quarter, once-again outscoring the hosts 7-1 to provide for the final margin of victory. Scoring goals were sophomore Davis Hatch/Mechanicsville (2g) at 11:21 and 4:09, Medwar at 8:55, Burke at 5:47 and 4:17, sophomore Jake Brummett/Glen Rock, Pa. (1g) at 5:40 and freshman Max Koontz/Winston-Salem, N.C. (1g) at 2:08. Burke added another assist on Medwar's goal. Junior captain and goalkeeper Nick Arcuri/Apex, N.C. started and played the entire 60 minutes, yielding the eight goals while making 10 saves. Brummett was 14-25 on face-offs, and collected 12 ground balls. Sophomore Canevin Wallace/Annapolis, Md. added four ground balls, while O'Brien had two caused turnovers. H-SC is scheduled to welcome ODAC arch-rival Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
