The Hanover College men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day at Alumni Stadium Saturday, April 20, with a 22-2 triumph over Mount St. Joseph. The Panthers' victory was their 10th of the spring, which sets a new program record for a single season. Hanover is 10-4 overall and five straight league wins improves the team to 5-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference. Six were honored before the game. Bret Schell (Dayton, Ohio) highlighted the group with two goals, two assists and nine groundballs to go along with a 17-for-18 effort in faceoffs. Evan Bartlett (Oxford, Ohio) and Keaghan Holland (Evansville, Ind.) combined for five caused turnovers defensively. Holland, as well as classmate Al Alessia (Crown Point, Ind.) grabbed three groundballs. Tyler Kordesich (Walkerton, Ind.) added two groundballs, one caused turnover, was 1-for-2 in faceoffs, and recorded his first collegiate assist in the fourth quarter. Sam Green (Beaumaris, Australia), who has not competed for most of the season due to injury, was also honored prior to the start of the contest. The Blue and Red outscored the Lions (1-13, 1-6 HCLC) by a count of 7-0 in the first 15 minutes of play. Junior Noah King (Lexington, Ky.) scored or assisted on four of the first five goals for HC. King tied for the team-high in total points, 10, recording four goals and six assists. Sophomore Ian Kimmins (Dayton, Ohio) scored the first four goals of the second quarter, putting HC in front 11-0 with 10 minutes remaining before halftime. Kimmins scored seven goals and added three helpers to total 10 points as well. The seven goals improved the sophomore's season total to 52, which is a new single season record, passing Josh Green's total of 48 back in 2014. Scoring two of his three goals in the second quarter was junior Dallas Fonner (Evansville, Ind.). King added a score as well, giving the Panthers a 14-1 lead at halftime. Hanover outshot MSJ over the first 30 minutes, 41-2. Hanover went on to outscore the Lions 8-1 in the second half, including a 6-1 count in the third quarter. Freshman Colt Lambdin (Traverse City, Mich.) scored his second goal of the season, while classmate Mike Zoeller (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up his first career assist. Overall, Hanover outshot the Lions 63-7, including a 36-6 edge on goal. The Panthers won 24-of-28 faceoffs as well. To go along with Schell's success at the "X," sophomore Justin Wilson (Fishers, Ind.) went 6-for-8 in faceoffs. After setting the single-game groundball record with 21 last time out, junior Eric Clay (Wilmington, Del.) retrieved 14 on Saturday. Clay also recorded seven caused turnovers. Overall, HC caused 22 of MSJ's 36 turnovers. In goal, junior Noah Dubrava (Centerville, Ohio) and freshman Sean O'Meara (Lexington, Ky.) combined for four saves. In two conference games against MSJ this season, the Panthers outscored the Lions 55-4. Hanover's win has also guaranteed the team a top-two finish in the final HCLC standings and keeps the squad one-game back in the loss column to Transylvania.
