The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team was dealt its third straight loss on Tuesday evening following a 15-8 defeat to local rival Vassar. Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) each finished the night with three goals. Vassar opened the scoring with the only three goals of the opening 15 minutes and added the first goal of the second stanza to build a 4-0 lead. Tommy Van Pelt got the Brewers on the board just under two minutes into the contest with Michael Mullen and Nick Diamond adding first quarter markers. Trailing 4-0 early in the second period, Holland got the Knights on the board with his first goal of the night off a feed from Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.). Vassar answered with the next four goals to spread its lead to 8-1 before Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Holland scored back-to-back goals late in the period. Maraio finished off a pass from R.J. Maher (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) with the man advantage with Holland and Esposito hooking up for the second time of the night with 5:48 left before halftime. The five-goal disadvantage following Holland's second tally would be as close as the Mount would get the rest of the night as Vassar scored in the final minute of the second period and scored three of the first four goals of the third stanza to open a 12-4 lead. Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) scored the lone Mount goal in the third period and added two fourth period tallies to close out his hat trick. Holland scored his third of the game early in the fourth stanza with newcomer Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) scoring for the second straight outing. Holland doubled his scoring output in the game and moved into the team lead in goals with six on the season. Galluci moved into a tie for tops on the team in points with nine following his three-goal night with Esposito moving his team lead in assists to seven while joining Gallucci with nine points through the first four contests of the season. Holland and Jake Camerino (Shelton, Conn.) paced the Mount with two caused turnovers apiece with Camerino collecting a team-high six groundballs. Zachary Beam (Montgomery, N.Y.) closed the night 11-for-24 in face-offs and added three groundballs. Vassar was led by five goals and eight points from Mullen with Logan Hyde adding two goals and four helpers. Matthew Lowery won 13 face-offs for the Brewers and led the team with five groundballs. In goal, sophomore Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) finished the night with six saves and three groundballs, while Devin Lee scored the win for Vassar with four saves. Vassar held a 38-20 advantage in shots on the night, including a 21-14 edge in shots on goal. Groundballs went to Vassar 41-28 as did face-offs 15-11. Both team went 1-for-3 with the man advantage on the night with the Mount going 17-for-23 in clearing chances and Vassar going 14-for-17. Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-3 overall on the season. The Knights are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Albright to Newburgh for the fourth contest of a five-game homes stand. Face-off with the Lions is set for 1:00 p.m.
