For the fifth straight year Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse is headed to the Landmark Conference Championship game after topping Scranton, 14-10, Wednesday afternoon on Wolf Field. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 6-2 while the Royals finish the year 5-3. Graduate student Mike Scrafano tallied a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Junior Owen Yake finished with three goals and classmate Nick Cost registered four point with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Christopher Crapanzano scored a team-high four goals and junior Cole Lukasiewicz had three points on a goal and two assists for the Royals. Etown got off to a hot start in the first quarter rattling off the first three goals on their way to a 4-1 lead after one period. Yake had two goals over this stretch while sophomore Colin Cummings and senior Cameron Goodling added the other two. The Blue Jays added to their lead at the start of the second quarter, scoring the first two goals of the quarter highlighted by senior Brandon Sankey finding Scrafano for the 6-1 lead with 10:14 remaining on the clock. Scranton countered with a 4-1 run to move within two (7-5) just before halftime. Etown looked to take a two-goal advantage into the locker room, but Scrafano had different thoughts as he quickly collected a ground ball from a shot and fired it home making the score at the break 8-5. The Blue Jays pushed its advantage back to five, scoring the first three goals of the second half to move ahead 11-6. Scrafano and senior Thomas Palen did the damage over this stretch to create the five-goal gap. Etown continued to hold a five-goal advantage after a Yake tally just under two minutes into the period made the core 13-8. Scranton attempted to rally with two consecutive goals, but a goal from junior Micah Ballew and stout defense held up late as the Blue Jays finished off the 14-10 win. Graduate student Thomas Mahoney (6-2) matched his season-high with 22 saves on 55 shots including 15 in the second half. Senior Shayne Fallon (5-3) nearly played the entire game in goal for the Royals, recording 12 saves on 45 shots faced. Elizabethtown awaits the winner of tonight's Catholic Moravian semifinal game for its opponent in the Landmark Conference Championship game. Time and place is yet to be determined.
