The Lehigh women's lacrosse team used a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead, then after Army West Point pulled even, the Mountain Hawks responded with the game's final two goals to pick up a 10-8 win in the Patriot League Semifinals on Thursday evening. With the victory, Lehigh advances to the league championship game for the first time since 2010. Graduate student Sondra Dickey put forth another incredible effort, posting three goals, one assist, four groundballs, three draw controls and six caused turnovers. "Credit to Army. They had a really good game plan with their zone on their defensive end," said Lehigh associate head coach Sammy Cermack. "Big credit to our defense today; they stepped up huge and got some big caused turnovers late in the game. Overall, we showd some resilience. I think we're going where we were meant to go from the start – to the Patriot League Championship Game. I'm really excited for this team; they're super selfless." Dickey now has 22 caused turnovers over her last five games to up her season total to 37, just one from tying a program record. Dickey's three goals gives her 202 for her career as she also reached 258 career points to move into third place in program history. Sophomore Katia Carnevale added two goals and an assist, including the go-ahead goal with 10:29 remaining, which proved to be the game-winner. Senior Cecily Redfern had two goals and an assist as well. Defensively, the Mountain Hawks didn't allow a goal for the game's final 17:04. A back-and-forth first half saw neither side lead by more than one. The Mountain Hawks held leads of 1-0, 4-3 and 6-5 – which proved to be the halftime score. Dickey scored three of Lehigh's six first-half goals. Monday's hero, junior Nora Giordano, opened the second-half scoring. Carnevale followed with her first of the day to take an 8-5 lead. The Black Knights quickly answered with three in the span of 2:18 to pull even at eight with 17:04 still remaining. But Lehigh's defense came up big – while the offense got goals from Carnevale and classmate Emma Eberhardt – to account for the 10-8 final. Final shots were 23-19 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 13-7 edge in draw controls. Army finished with a 19-11 advantage in groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Samantha Sagi tallied seven saves in the victory. Next up, Lehigh will play in Saturday's Patriot League Championship Game as the Mountain Hawks face host Loyola at 12:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
