The Husson University men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Beacons of UMass Boston, 18-7, in non-conference action at ForeKicks Sports Complex. HOW IT HAPPENED: UMass Boston (1-2) opened the scoring 22 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal from Conor Lenfest, but Husson (0-2) fired right back four minutes later with the equalizer when Blake Campbell found the back of the net off a nice assist from Jaden Wells with 10:46 to go in the opening quarter. Adam Littlefield broke the 1-1 stalemate with an EMO goal after netting his own rebound with 5:14 left in the first. The Eagles' only lead of the game was short lived as Michael Clafin leveled the game at two 12 seconds later before Joe Mauceri and Ned Parker gave the Beacons the 4-2 lead heading into the second quarter. UMass Boston scored four unanswered goals to begin the second before Matt Verrill tallied the Eagles second EMO goal of the game to cut the Beacons advantage to five at the 7:24 mark. Lenfast closed out the scoring in the first half when he pushed the Beacon lead back to six as UMass Boston took a 9-3 lead into the intermission. The third quarter opened with the Beacons and Eagles trading back-and-forth goals. Zach Glazier begin the back-and-forth with his third goal of the season off an assist by Blane Miller before Parker tallied his third of game with 9:57 left in the quarter. The Eagles received their third EMO goal of game off the stick of Campbell prior to Donny Bickford tally an EMO goal for the Beacons at the 4:22 mark of the third. Littlefield's second goal of the game was sandwich between two UMass Boston goals to closed out the quarter as the Beacons held a 13-6 advantage. Mitch Spurr scored the Eagles' lone goal in the fourth before the Beacons closed out the game with five unanswered goals for the 18-7 victory. HUSSON LEADERS: Campbell collected two goals off two shots. Wells recorded two helpers and a ground ball. Littlefield added two goals off a team high seven shots with a ground ball. Owen Richmond won 10 face-offs. UMASS BOSTON LEADERS: Parker finished with six goals and an assist. Lenfest recorded a hat-trick with a helper Joe Mauceri contributed his own hat-trick while scooping up four ground balls. Claflin had two goals and assists with a caused turnover. Tom Redmond won 15 face-offs. TEAM STATS: The Beacons held the lead in shots (52-27), ground balls (40-28) and face-off wins (18-7) in the win. THE KEEPERS: Matt Martin registered 17 saves and seven ground balls for the Eagles. UMass Boston's Cameron Dixson made 13 saves in 53 minutes of work to earn his first victory of the season, while Charlie Cook and George Goldie-Morrison played the final seven minutes of the game. UP NEXT: The Eagles will host Southern Maine on Friday, April 15th at Boucher Field. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
