SCORE: Kennesaw State 11, Liberty 23 RECORDS: Kennesaw State (5-10, 1-2), Liberty (10-8, 2-1) KEY PLAYERS: Siena Gore (4 goals, 8 DCs), Marissa Gore (1 goal, 2 assts, 8 DCs), Errin Crowe (7 saves, 1 CT), Jenna Mish (2 goals), Camryn Klaus (1 goal, 3 GBs, 1 CT) and Natalie Welch (1 goal, 1 asst, 1 GB). THE STORYLINE The 2021 Kennesaw State women's lacrosse season came to an end Thursday afternoon as the Owls fell to Liberty 23-11 in the ASUN Tournament semifinals at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. MANESS QUOTE On the game… "All in all, I felt like today we got off to a slow start, which is unfortunate, it wasn't the fire we wanted to come out with. However, at halftime we talked to our team about taking it one play at a time and coming out in the second half with a brand of lacrosse that we know we can play and we did just that. I think we evened out a lot of the stats in the second half which I'm really proud of, especially the draw controls. That's something we've been working on a lot this week and has been a focal point because we did struggle in the past against them." On notable play and the second half push… "It really was a full team effort today. We had multiple girls come in and make plays off the bench. Notably Jenna Mish as well as Anna Karoly on defense and Errin Crowe who came in and made some saves and gave us a spark. Mia MacKenzie scored right away when she subbed in so I was really pleased with the fact that everyone was invested, and everyone was giving us everything they could in that second half. We just ran out of time." On injuries… "We're looking forward to next season and getting a fresh start and getting people healthy. It was unfortunate to not have Roslyn Talbert available to play on defense and some of the other girls who have really been leaders on the field, but I think that shows the importance that you need to rely on everyone. We are really proud of our senior class who have battled all year round and kept the wheels turning on this team through good and bad, we are really pleased with their efforts and how they left things. We just need to keep going after it next season." HOW IT HAPPENED The Flames took control early with the opening goal a minute into the game. Liberty then proceeded to extend its lead to 4-0 until Siena Gore got the Owls on the board with a free position goal at the 24:29 mark. After another goal by Liberty, the Owls cut the lead to two thanks to back-to-back goals from Mia Mackenzie and Jaxsyn Schonewille. Liberty responded with a 6-0 run to take an 11-3 lead with 17:40 still to play in the half. Siena Gore finally ended KSU's scoring drought with another free position goal. LU added another two goals before Marissa Gore found the back of the net to make it 13-5 with 10 minutes to go. The Flames closed out the half with three more goals to send KSU into the locker room trailing 16-5. KSU turned it around in a more back-and-forth second half as Camryn Klaus got the Owls started off hot with a goal. Liberty responded with three goals to maintain its 19-6 lead before Siena Gore earned her hat trick with a goal. The two teams traded goals as freshman Jenna Mish logged back-to-back scoop shot goals to make it 21-9 with just under 10 minutes left in the game.
