Offense would be hard to generate to start the game, and that would set the tone. John Carroll University (4-3, 0-0 OAC) traveled to Delaware, Ohio to take on Ohio Wesleyan for the second consecutive season. Like the first match-up, it would be the Battling Bishops getting the win over the Blue Streaks, with the final score being 21-9 in this meeting. The first quarter went the way of the Bishops, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after over five minutes, prompting a timeout from the Blue Streaks. John Carroll would have chances offensively, but shots on goal from Kevin Hack and Bennett Gorman would be saved by Ohio Wesleyan's goalkeeper Joey Sinchenzia. OWU would add two more goals to make it 6-0 going into the second quarter. This is the second game this season that the Blue Streaks were held without a goal in the opening 15 minutes. The second quarter would be a continuation of the first. Ohio Wesleyan added to their lead with four goals. The Battling Bishops were shutting out the Blue Streaks for almost the entirety of the first half, until with seconds remaining, Brendan Whitty passed it to Cam Gerard, and Gerard found twine to get the Blue and Gold on the board as time expired. Ohio Wesleyan took a 10-1 lead into halftime. A total of 12 face-offs were taken during the first half, and Evan Schneeberger won eight of them. Jacob Betz made four saves in goal in the first two quarters. In the third quarter, it would be the Blue Streaks striking first with Logan Collins continuing his goal-streak with the assist from Bennett Gorman just under five minutes into the quarter. Ohio Wesleyan would answer six seconds later, but Gorman would respond 44 seconds after the Bishops' goal, and it was 11-3 with 9:12 remaining. Minutes later, after OWU netted another goal, Jared Gorenflo was able to get a goal back with the assist from Josh Plarr, and Gorman added another goal with under a minute to go. Ohio Wesleyan was able to score a goal in the final seconds of the third, and the Battling Bishops' led 13-5. The offense wouldn't stop there for OWU as they scored first in the final quarter less than two minutes into the fourth, but right from the face-off, Clayton Karam responded with a goal nine seconds later. From there the Battling Bishops went on a five goal streak until Gorman netted another goal for the Blue Streaks with just over five minutes remaining. JP Chinelly made his first collegiate appearance in goal for John Carroll as he played the final 7:33 of the contest. Ohio Wesleyan added two more goals, but JCU would finish with the last two goals, with Kevin Hack scoring a man-up goal, and Reed Stuhlreyer scoring the first goal of his career in the final minute. Gorman finished the game with three goals and an assist. Along with his first goal of the season, Karam also had eight ground balls in the game. Schneeberger won 16 face-offs in 30 attempts. Betz finished his night with 11 saves. John Carroll begins defense of its three consecutive OAC Championships this Saturday, March 23rd, as the Blue Streaks take on Muskingum in New Concord, Ohio, at 1:00 p.m.
