Three different players registered a hat trick for Kean as the Castleton men's lacrosse team fell in a neutral site game, 14-5, at MCLA on Saturday to kick off its season. Jake Frankovits and Mike Snellen led the way with three goals and two assists each. Tyler Roberto finished with three tallies for Kean. For the Spartans, Kyle Lutinski and Tyler Crowningshield both had multi-point games, finishing with a goal and an assist. Cameron Russell, Jason Sedell, and Colin Clark scored the remaining three goals for Castleton (0-1). Brandon Myron started in goal for Castleton and made 17 saves. Alex Rousseau stopped one shot on two chances on target in relief. For the Cougars, Thomas Francy picked up the win after making two saves and allowing four goals through three quarters. Ryan Sieb played the fourth quarter and made four saves and surrendered one goal. Kean (1-0) scored the game's first four goals in the opening 6:13 of play. Snellen netted the first two and Alex Hufford converted both of his goals on the evening separated by 1:21 to build the advantage. Lutinski got the Spartans on the board with 6:59 remaining in the opening quarter, but the Cougars scored three more to end the quarter with a 7-1 edge. Castleton scored the first goal of the second quarter before Kean rolled off four straight tallies to take an 11-2 lead. The half ended with an 11-3 edge for the Cougars after Clark scored with 1:34 remaining in the first half. Kean outscored Castleton 3-1 in the second half to coast to the 14-5 decision. Russell scored the only goal of the fourth quarter at the 10-minute mark to complete the scoring. The Spartans are scheduled to host Potsdam at Tuesday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m.
