The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team scored four, fourth-quarter goals Sunday, breaking open a tie game and registering a 12-9 non-conference home win over the Sewanee Tigers. Just 64 seconds into the final period, the Lords capitalized on a Sewanee turnover and claimed a 9-8 lead when sophomore Matt Pollack scored an unassisted goal. Right around the 10-minute mark of the fourth, the Lords took steps to put the game away. Back-to-back tallies from Emilio Sosa and Pollack made the score 11-8 and matched the Lords' largest lead of the game. Sosa, a senior, scored a man-up goal off a feed from Nick Vitale. In the 10 seconds that followed, sophomore Ian Gobron won the faceoff, sprinted downfield and assisted Pollack on his game-high fifth goal. Sewanee scored a man-up goal about four minutes later, but Kenyon closed things out with a final score from sophomore Will Harrigan with 2:06 left on the clock. The game was chippy throughout, with the two teams combining for 21 penalties. Sewanee ended up scoring four times in 10 extra-man opportunities, while Kenyon notched three extra-man goals in nine opportunities. Kenyon jumped out to a three-goal lead early in the game. After the Tigers scored first, the Lords retaliated with goals from Sam Humphrey, Sosa, Harrigan and Joe Bolea. Sewanee answered with two and Pollack closed out the first quarter with his first goal of the game, giving Kenyon a 5-3 lead. Sewanee senior Thomas Lynde scored twice in the second quarter and teammate Will Pratt's man-up goal in the third quarter tied the game at 7-7. Freshman Ethan Dewbrey gave the Lords the lead back again, but another man-up goal from Sewanee knotted things, 8-8, at the end of the third. Kenyon out-shot Sewanee 50-30. The Tigers, however, were more efficient with their shots, scoring nine times in 19 shots on goal. That left Kenyon goalkeeper David Metzger with 10 saves. His counterpart, Bryce Womack, saw 29 Kenyon shots on goal, of which he saved 17. Pollack had one assist to go along with his five goals, giving him a game-high six points. Vitale had four points, all on assists, while both Sosa and Harrigan scored twice for the Lords, who improved their season record to 3-0. Lynde's three goals and one assist led the Tigers, who fell to 1-3.
