The Mount St. Joseph University men's lacrosse team squared off against the RedHawks of La Roche College. Unfortunately The Lions lost steam in the second half and were bested by the RedHawks 9-5. It was a quick start to the game as both teams struck early earning themselves each a goal. The Lions struck first as sophomore Kevin McClanahan (Madeira, OH / Madeira) found the back of the net 23 seconds into the start of the game. The RedHawks didn't waste much time scoring their first goal of the game just 11 seconds after. It didn't take long until McClanahan found the back of the net again of off an assist from Noah Borgdorf (Bellevue, MI / Bellevue). As the first quarter began to wind down McClanahan yet again found the back of the net, earning himself a hat trick, and making the score 3-1. Senior Tony Behler (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) added his name onto The Lions scoring list as he scored with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. With just 42 seconds left in the quarter the RedHawks scored their second goal of the game, ending the quarter with The Lions leading 4-2. The goal scoring went in the RedHawks favor during the second quarter as The Lions were only able to find the back of the net one time compared to the Redhawks four goals. The Redhawks scored first, just one minute into the start of the quarter, and went on to score three more goals throughout the rest of the quarter before The Lions were able to get back on the board. Behler scored again for The Lions off of an assist by Borgdorf. Entering the half The Lions found themselves down by just one with a score of 6-5. During the second half both teams struggled to make connections with each other and get a goal. La Roche was able to gain three more goals before the time ran out, with two in the third quarter and one more in the fourth. The Mount had many opportunities to score and get back in the game but none of them were able find their way past the goalie. The clock ran out and The Mount finds themselves being defeated by the RedHawks with a final score of 9-5. The Mount's goalie Dakota Lambing (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) helped keep The Lions competitive achieving a total of 26 saves throughout the game. The Lions will be back in action on Thursday, March 14 on Schueler Field as they host the Comets of Olivet College at 3 PM.
