The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team snapped its two-game skid Wednesday afternoon as attackmen Jack Donnelly (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Colton Dick (Owings, Md./Northern) combined for four goals and four assists in the win. Susquehanna (3-2) claimed a hard-fought 9-7 non-conference victory over Lebanon Valley College (0-4).
Susquehanna 9, Lebanon Valley 7
How It Happened
Susquehanna claimed the first period, 4-2, as Donnelly notched all three of his goals in the first 15 minutes. The River Hawks scored quickly as sophomore midfielder Tyler Humphrey (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) netted the opening goal 42 seconds in.
The Dutchmen evened up the contest at 4-4 with a pair of man-up goals in the first 10 minutes of the second quarter. SU responded with three goals in the final 3:17 of the half, including senior midfielder Lou Pillari's (Bayville, N.Y./Chaminade) second tally of the season with four seconds on the clock, to stake a 7-4 advantage at halftime.
Each side picked up a goal in a turnover-laden third frame and the River Hawks carried a three-goal cushion into the final period.
Senior captain Jake Smolokoff (Oceanport, N.J./Red Bank Regional) found the back of the net just a minute into the fourth quarter to stretch Susquehanna's lead to four. Lebanon Valley scored twice in less than eight minutes to cut the deficit in half at 2:19 but solid defensive play by the River Hawks, including two stops by senior captain Dylan Abplanalp (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island), stymied LVC's rally.
