The #19-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team opened the season with a strong performance to turn back St. Mary's College, 15-8, at the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday. Senior Ben Levin (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) struck twice in the opening quarter to give the Red Devils a 4-2 advantage at the end of the first. Ryan Schaffer (West Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) and Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added goals to start the second period, stretching the lead to 6-2. St. Mary's capitalized with a pair of man-up goals and tallied another to cut the deficit to 6-5 with just over five minutes remaining in the half. First-year Griffin Moore (Ridgefield, Conn./Trinity Pawling) netted his second of the game with an assist from classmate Skyler Schluter (Summit, N.J./Summit) to give the Red Devils a 7-5 advantage at the break. Dickinson pulled away in the third, capitalizing on three extra-man opportunities and extending the margin to 13-5. Schluter found the net and handed out two assists during the run while Levin and Moore each struck twice with Goles added another as well. St. Mary's outscored the Red Devils 3-2 in the fourth with Levin netting his fifth of the game while Schluter added his fourth assist, feeding Schaffer for a hat-trick. Levin finished with five goals, seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to lead the attack. Moore tallied four goals while Schafer added three. Teddy Macfarlane (Towson, Md./Towson) won six face-offs, controlled seven ground balls and forced three turnovers. Senior Rocco Casaceli (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) forced four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Senior goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made seven saves for the Red Devils while Kryle Preis made 21 stops for St. Mary's. The Red Devils claim the season opener and will return to Carlisle to host Stevens Institute of Technology next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
