Eastern University Men's Lacrosse held the visiting Haverford College Fords scoreless through the first half and had a pair of players pick up five-point days on the way to a 16-4 win. Braian Casey won all but one of his first-half faceoff chances to help the Eagles to a 7-0 lead at the break. Adam Grant made 12 stops to pick up the win in goal. How It Happened: With Casey controlling the X early, the Eagles had the bulk of possession. The Eagles (1-1) took advantage with four goals in the first period. After missing the opening goal of the game by a second on a shot-clock violation with a flag down, Kyle Fanelli put in a rebound to open the scoring with a man-up chance int he fourth minute. Five minutes later, Connor Killion ripped home a strong shot after a change of direction in the alley. Killion finished with three goals and an assist. Kyle Mulrane scored on a low-to high shot just as the Fords got through another short-handed stretch. Killion provided the helper. Colin Piper found Kyle Fanelli on the doorstep in the final seconds of the period for a 4-0 lead. Piper scored from Killion to start the second quarter. They Eagles scored their next two goals in quick succession with a little less than five minutes to play. Cole Millard started the burst with a clean strip on the defensive end. Chris Durning scooped the ground ball and found Nate Hawkins for the clear. Millard finished with four caused turnovers and Durning had ten ground balls. Hawkins drove toward goal and flipped a pass to Jimmy Kurnik in the left alley. Kurnik unloaded a huge overhand shot for his first goal of the year. Casey won the ensuing faceoff and tagged a corner for his first of the season. Grant made eight saves in the first half. To start the second half, Kyle Fanelli found his younger brother on the doorstep and Nicholas Fanelli threw a pair of fakes at the goalie before dunking home his first career goal. The two would connect again late in the third with Nicholas playing hte provider role for a 10-2 lead. Michael Ferrara scored his first goal on a Piper feed for Eastern's ninth goal. Killion scored to end the third and early in the fourth, and Piper scored his second of the day to start the fourth. Patrick McClain, and Connor Bachman each scored their first career goals in the fourth and Mulrane picked up his second of the day on anther Piper feed. Connor Evans and Kyle Dampman came on in goal for Grant to finish the game. Coach Wallace Says: "We were good on faceoffs and on defense, and we took advantage of opportunities on offense. Both teams were missing some key offensive players, but I was pleased with the way executed in our clearing and in the settled offense." Up Next: Teh Eagles will host No. 12 Ursinus College on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. The Bears (2-0) beat Mary Washington today and picked up a one-goal win over Stevenson to start the year.
