The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team squandered a five-goal lead and were outscored 7-1 in the fourth quarter in recording their third straight loss Thursday afternoon. Susquehanna (3-5) suffered a 15-10 non-conference setback at the University of Mary Washington (5-4). Susquehanna 10, Mary Washington 15 How It Happened With 12:46 remaining in the third quarter, the River Hawks secured a 9-4 advantage behind two goals in less than two minutes as the start of the third. Senior midfielder Jack Gerrity (Scotch Plains-Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and sophomore attackman Colton Dick (Owings, Md./Northern) both scored in the 2-0 run. It was all Mary Washington after that as the host Eagles rattled off five unanswered goals, including back-to-back goals from Chris White, to knot the contest at 9-9 with 13:47 left in the game. Freshman attackman Jack McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) slowed down UMW's roll with his only goal of the game at 11:58. Mary Washington then closed out the game on a 6-0 run in the final 10 minutes. Sean Tuite and Dyson Adams each tallied two goals in the Eagle push. Susquehanna won the first period, 3-1, behind three different scorers and then outdid UMW, 4-3, in the second as senior attackman Jack Donnelly (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) struck twice, sending the River Hawks into halftime with a 7-4 lead. Inside the Box Score Mary Washington outshot the River Hawks, 44-30, and dominated ground balls, 54-31. The Eagles also controlled face-offs, winning 24-of-28, as Quintin Ricci took all 28 face-offs and scooped up a game-best 12 ground balls. Susquehanna struggled to transition from defense onto offense, successfully clearing the ball out of its defensive end 19-of-30. Top Performers Donnelly collected his third hat trick of the season, leading the River Hawks with three goals, while Dick tallied two goals and two assists. McLaughlin put up season-bests of two assists, three points, and four ground balls. Senior captain Travis Yaga (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) and junior long-pole midfielder Jacob Fox (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) anchored the defense with solid play. Fox scooped up a career-best five ground balls for the second straight game plus three caused turnovers while Yaga chipped in a career-high five caused turnovers. Senior captain Dylan Abplanalp (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) picked up a career-best 22 saves and added two ground balls in the loss. White and Tuite each found the back of the net four times to lead the Eagles offensively while Billy Senicola registered nine stops in the win.
