The Marymount men's lacrosse team fell at home against the Shenandoah Hornets on Saturday afternoon, 14-9. It only took three minutes before the game's first goal. Shenandoah then added four more unanswered goals before the end of the quarter, ending the first quarter with a 6-1 lead over the Saints. The second quarter was more productive for the Saints. Freshman attackman Riley Scales found the back of the net for the first time in his career to drop the Hornets' lead to five. After goals from sophomore Jonah Mackiewicz and junior Emmanuel Spyridakis the Saints were headed into the break down by just four. Senior Christian Lutz helped the Saints secure a three goal quarter, as he was a perfect 6-6 at the faceoff "X" in the second quarter and 20-for-27 (74%) on the day. At the break, the Hornets lead the Saints in shots, 24-15, but were only ahead by on the board by four. After the break, two quick goals from Mackiewicz and sophomore Clark Akers cut the Hornets lead to only two. However, that was the smallest their lead got for the remainder of the game. Three-straight goals gave the Hornets a five-goal lead as time was ticking down in the third. With seconds remaining freshman Hunter Ralston won the ground ball and ran straight to goal, converting his shot to cut the deficit back to four. As the fourth quarter came to an end Ralston found his second goal, but Shenandoah closed the game with two unassisted goals from Ryan Schott and Devon Weaver. Akers led the Saints on the day with three points, while tying for a team-high two goals. Senior Dalton Smolens led the defense with four caused turnovers. Senior Grey Clarkson played the entire game for Marymount, making 15 saves in net, just one shy of his career record. The Saints return home on Wednesday, February 27 to host Catholic University at Long Bridge Park; the opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
