The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team concluded a four game home stand on Saturday with a hard fought 7-5 loss to visiting Marywood. Junior Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) finished the day with three points, while classmate Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) made 10 saves in goal. Mount Saint Mary got off to a strong start in the game scoring two goals just seven seconds apart in the middle stages of the first period to open a 2-0 lead. Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.) opened the scoring with a man-up goal, his eighth of the season, at the 8:01 mark of the first. After Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) won the ensuing face-off, he fed Holland for his first of the day at 7:54 for the early two goal advantage. After falling behind by two, the Pacers answered with the next three goals to take their first lead of the day with 10:41 left before halftime. Jeff Johnsen got the visitors on the board just 11 seconds after the Holland tally and Eric Morin got the game even with just under a minute left in the first quarter. Luke Shedler capped the three goal run just over four minutes into the second frame, burying Zach Beja's second assist of the day. Trailing 3-2 in the middle of the second period, the Mount got the game even at 3-3 and closed out the scoring in the second period. Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) finished off his second goal of the season off a pass from Holland at the 7:34 mark of the second quarter to send the game to the intermission even at 3-3. Over the opening 30 minutes of action, the Mount outshot Marywood 19-14 overall and 13-8 in shots on goal. Mount Saint Mary doubled up the Pacers in groundballs prior to halftime 22-11 and won five of the eight face-offs contested. Coming out of the break, the Pacers scored the first four goals of the second half to open a 7-3 lead and held the Knights off the board until the late stages of the fourth period. Zach Vaughan and Johnsen produced the only goals of the third quarter with Vaughan scoring the first two goals of the fourth stanza, including a man-down goal at 10:14, to give the Pacers the late four goal lead. The Knights mounted one last charge with two goals in the final three minutes, but were unable to get the game even again. Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored his ninth goal of the season with just under three minutes to go in regulation and Holland got the Mount to within two goals with 2:21 left to play, but the Mount went without a shot after its final goal of the day.
