Hats off to Albany today," head coach Chris Feifs said. "They executed at an elite level in all phases of the game. We will learn from this experience and get back to work on Monday. I love this team and know we can perform at a much higher level than we did today." Albany jumped out of the gates with a pair of goals from the Reh twins separated by 16 seconds to take a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. The Danes added another trio of goals before the end of the first quarter. TD Ierlan was 6-for-6 at the X in the opening quarter. Vermont's best chance of the opening quarter came in the final minute, Ian MacKay got the ball with space to the net and uncorked a shot off the crossbar and out of bounds. Albany added four more goals to open the second quarter before Vermont's Dawes Milchling got a man-up goal by Albany goalie JD Colarusso. Jack Knight fed the ball to the Maryland native who had space to wind up a shot. MacKay's behind-the-back pass to Ben French led to a great UVM chance in the second quarter, but Colarusso made a fantastic save with the sophomore at his doorstep. The Great Danes saw another pair of goals find the back of the net before the half ended to enter the break with an 11-1 lead. James Leary grabbed two ground balls and added a pair of caused turnovers in the opening half. The Catamounts went 6 -for-8 on clears while Albany was a perfect 7-for-7. UVM won the turnover battle in the opening half, giving the ball away five times compared to Albany's six giveaways. Rob Hudson scored with 13:15 remaining in the third quarter on Vermont's second man-up opportunity of the afternoon. MacKay scored his 19th goal of the season and 200th career point with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter. Andrew Simeon picked up the ground ball of the faceoff and moved the ball to MacKay for his second assist of the season. MacKay added another 22 seconds into the fourth quarter as Vermont started the quarter on the man-advantage. French scored the final goal of the game with 45 seconds remaining to make it 21-5 in favor of Albany. Nick Washuta made eight saves in the first 40:37 of gameplay. Ryan Cornell made four saves in relief. Alex Semler led UVM at the X with a 3-for-7 mark. Vermont hosts Binghamton next Saturday, March 24 at 12 p.m. in the first of a lacrosse doubleheader.
