The Medaille Men's Lacrosse Team returned to action Saturday afternoon for a rescheduled game from this past Thursday. Medaille played host to The Sage Colleges on a mild day in South Buffalo. Medaille enters play (0-2) on the young season. The Gators drew first blood in this one just thirty seconds into the game. They held a (1-0) lead early over Medaille. The Mavs answered back just a minute later when Ben Erickson (Franklinville, NY, Frnaklinville) beat the Sage keeper to even the score at (1). The fast and furious pace persisted when the Gators came back and scored to regain a (2-1) lead over Medaille. Medaille surrendered another one moments later as the Gators took a (3-1) lead. Jake Rush (Hamburg, NY, Frontier) made a few fancy moves to get open and put one home to draw the Mavs closer, now trailing (3-2). The Mavs drew even courtesy of Towi Oakes (Akwesasne, NY, Cornwall Collegiate) off a nice assist from Rahim Melon (Willemstad, Curacao, Peterstuyvesant College). Medaille took the lead for the first time when Tyler Fales (Batavia, NY, Batavia) scored off an assist from Erickson. Rush then went coast to coast leaving defenders in his wake and fired one past the Gators keeper to give the Mavs a (5-3) lead. The Gators were able to add one to their total with two minutes left in the first quarter. Medaille still had a (5-4) lead. David Cloy (Wilson, NY, Wilson) answered for the Mavs and the score now sat at (6-4). Sage came back and scored moments later but the Mavs still led (6-5). Cloy recorded another one off an assist from Fales to give Medaille a (7-5) lead. The Mavs got another one from Fales from a nice pass from Rush. The Mavericks now held a (8-5) lead. In electrifying fashion Chris Newton (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca West) ripped one home as the buzzer sounded to give Medaille a (9-5) lead entering halftime. The Gators opened the scoring in the second half and pulled closer to Medaille, now trailing the Mavs (9-6). The score drew closer as Sage added another goal, now trailing Medaille (9-7). The Gators got another one in the fourth quarter to close the gap to one, down (9-8) to Medaille. Oakes put one home for the Mavs to give them back a two goal lead. The goal was assisted by Rush. Medaille now led (10-8). Oakes completed the hat trick, giving the Mavs an (11-8) lead. For the third time in a row Oakes put one home, this time shorthanded. His fourth goal of the game gave the Mavs a (12-8) lead. The Gators got one back and the score sat at (12-9) Mavs. The game got interesting when the Gators put home another one, now only trailing Medaille (12-10). Again the Gators scored and only trailed Medaille by a single goal. Not long after the Gators evened the score at (12) with two minutes remaining. The score would remain tied after regulation and the game went to overtime. The Gators put one home in overtime to defeat the Mavs by a score of (13-12). Medaille is now (0-3) on the season. Individually for the Mavs, Oakes led the team with (4) goals. Cloy, Fales, and Rush had (2) each. Rush and Fales each had (3) assists. The Mavs will return to action Monday when they travel to Alverina University.
