A four-goal surge in the final seven minutes of the game helped the ninth-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team pull away from No. 24 Georgetown University Wednesday afternoon, en route to a 13-9 victory at Cooper Field. Freshman Livy Rosenzweig led the Greyhounds (13-3 overall) with a game-high five points, on three goals and two assists, while junior Hannah Powers added three goals. Seniors Frankie Kamely and Hannah Savage, juniors Taylor VanThof and Sabrina Tabasso, and freshmen Bridget Ballard, Sam Fiedler and Elli Kluegel rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece. Georgetown (11-5 overall) was led by Michaela Bruno's four goals. The Hoyas netted the first two goals of the game, scoring at 27:22 and 26:51, before a free position goal from Kluegel got the Greyhounds on the board. Another pair of Hoya scores pushed Georgetown ahead 4-1 at the 24:31 mark, but Powers and Tabasso answered for Loyola, bringing the Greyhounds within one, 4-3, at 15:52. Georgetown regained a two-goal advantage at the 14:57 mark, before Savage's free-position goal after Rosenzweig's unassisted strike knotted the game at 5-5 with 6:42 to play in the half. Rosenzweig then assisted Powers at 6:12 and scored at 1:35 to help the Greyhounds finish the half on a four-goal run and take a 7-5 advantage into the halftime break. Bruno netted a second-half hat trick for the Hoyas, helping Georgetown pull even by the 18:13 mark. She scored the first goal of the second half and then tacked on back-to-back tallies after VanThof's free-position goal at 23:14. Kamely's free position goal at 16:10 gave Loyola a one-goal advantage, but the Hoyas answered at 13:39 to keep the game knotted, at 9-9. After seven minutes of scoreless action, the Greyhounds broke out with three goals in a span of 1:10 to pull ahead 12-9. Powers, Fiedler and Rosenzweig scored the goals, respectively, before Ballard closed out the game with Loyola's fourth-straight goal at the 2:50 mark. Senior Margaret Filippelli led the defense with a career-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers, while junior Kristen Yanchoris and Rosenzweig each added three ground balls. Senior Madison Fahey finished with two ground balls and three caused turnovers. In goal, junior Kady Glynn recorded nine saves. The Greyhounds will close out their regular season on Saturday when they host Holy Cross at 1 p.m. Loyola will host a Senior Day ceremony for its six seniors - Olivia Blakeman, Madison Fahey, Margaret Filippelli, Katrina Geiger, Frankie Kamely and Hannah Savage - prior to the start of the game.
